Today I am grateful for:

Reasonable weather. Kind of cooler and overcast, but not bad.

Trying to work with my Sweetie to get several things organized to donate to the local Habitat for Humanity. They will even come and pick it up. He's willing to donate the aluminum frame storm windows that we no longer need on the house now that we replaced the windows, some used laminate flooring if they'll take it (salvaged from the trailer when we tore it down), and maybe some other things.

It's a good opportunity to clear out things no longer needed by us, and get some space back in the garage.

He has an appointment with them to come pick it all up next Wednesday, so that gives him some time to organize.

I went for a walk around the horse pasture with Roxy and Rocky (the little dog who is visiting). Rocky seems to like being outside, but gets cold very easily. He likely only weighs three or four pounds.

Then I went to see River. It looks like he finally got to eat before I showed up.

We had a good lesson. We worked on the new movements, the turn away, the spanish walk, and cantering over poles.

We actually did a very low jump today, with just the bareback pad and the neck rope. He moved over it very nicely without hitting it with his feet (he is often not great with picking his feet up over even poles).

I came home, and my Sweetie seemed pretty defensive over his "right" to just leave his big denim bag lying on the kitchen island. It's the bag he puts his lunch and such in for work.

I just hung it up in the porch, which is only a few steps from the island, and he was all like "why can't it just stay where it was?"

Because my husband is terrible for just leaving things all over, and then treating it like that's where that thing actually belongs. If it's his work back pack, and he starts leaving it in the middle of the bedroom floor, he thinks that's appropriate.

I had to make him put away his tool pouch and a light fixture he removed from the side of the house, which were just lying right in the middle of the porch, and had been there for days. He felt like I was being unfair to him to ask him to put them away, since "he was thinking about donating the light fixture, and he would need the tools again at some point". So, something that he MIGHT deal with in a few weeks, but it should sit right in the middle of the porch floor. The porch that is so small I can touch the walls and can't straighten my arms.

Sigh.

At least he was able to be civil enough to watch a movie. We watched "Edwin Boyd", which was pretty good.

I continue to try to spend quality time with Mr.Bun, who is really not that interested, and often does little bunny growls at me if he feels threatened. At least he seems otherwise happy with his enclosure.

I learned that Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is still under copyright to the original creator of the character, Robert May (I suppose, the estate of Robert May). It will expire in 2034.

It is one of the few major Christmas iconic characters that is still under copyright.

Theoretically this should mean that every use of his likeness is a violation, but I don't know about you, but I've seen Christmas cards and decorations of a deer with a glowing nose...maybe some things just get overlooked?

So, those who used Rudolph in movies and such paid royalties.

Oh my my - I draw a version of Rudolph and his pals every year for the Christmas party invitation. Last year it was Rudolph and the misfit doll, and this year it's Rudolph with Sam the snowman. Hopefully, it's just lifting the exact images and characters from the movie that's questionable - though I saw a Proenza Schouler ad with "the" Rudolph in it a few years back.

I suppose the very concept of Rudolph is protected.

I don't like things left out of place, either - especially extension cords and buckets of tools! I also don't like clothes left thrown over chairs for days. After one evening, off it goes into the laundry.

The invitation features Rudolph sharing a piece of cake with Sam the Snowman. I think it turned out OK. I'm glad to have it done for another year. Onward to two Mungo cards - a printed one, and an online portrait of the both of us.
