Today I am grateful for:

Electricity, on days like this that are so grey and overcast.

How nice it is to be surrounded by sweet animals. To wake up and be greeted by happy little fur balls.

My husband had a potluck lunch at work today, and he brought spring rolls. He said it was a good lunch with many people bringing tasty healthy items, and everyone loved the spring rolls. It's always nice when the food you take is all eaten.

I put light blankets on the mares at home because there's a chance of rain or snow. The blankets are more to keep them from getting wet backs.

I did some laundry.

I went to see River, we had a lesson today.

I am getting annoyed that the person who has her lesson before mine often eats into MY time. Either she needs help loading her horses into the trailer (which should be done on HER lesson time, not mine) or they just aren't "done" their lesson.

R often gets me to come into the arena and warm up while they finish, but that can eat up ten to fifteen minutes of MY lesson (which lasts about an hour).

Yet, if there is a lesson AFTER mine, I have to be OUT of the arena right on time so as not to interfere.

If there is no lesson after mine, we do often go longer, and when it is like that, I'm fine with starting late, it doesn't matter to me as long as I'm getting my full time.

Today, the woman before me just kind of stood there in the middle of the arena talking with R, and talked and talked and talked. I really like this person, so it's nice to see her, but why eat up my lesson time? I worked with River and did our warm up, and then I was just like "COULD WE ACTUALLY START MY LESSON, PLEASE?".

I know that R is not good with time, as she just kind of works all day long, and so I am the one who makes a point of entering the arena exactly on time. I guess I would like the same consideration?

Anyhow, our lesson was good. Mostly continuing work on things from the last few lessons. Spanish walk (going to be a long process) and getting a steady canter at liberty, some ridden work that felt more like just a demo than a lesson, but okay.

What I liked, is to see that River had his happy face on today, and that is my goal. To still do new things, refine old ones, but see that happy face. It is totally possible for a horse to enjoy the work, and to get satisfaction from doing it and being praised. Some horses have an absolute blast working with their person. That is just the best goal.

I came home and visited with my Sweetie over supper, and he pretty much had to go to bed. He did go to the climbing gym today, and enjoyed himself, and he dropped off a tool we used to put up drywall that we no longer need, and sold to a person via Buy and Sell.

I learned that Screech Owls sometimes bring small Texas Blind Snakes to their nests alive, and let them burrow into the fluff at the bottom to eat parasites.
