Nov. 27th, 2023 02:31 amToday I am grateful for:
I didn't have to go anywhere in a hurry, so I could just sleep. I could NOT get to sleep, and just thrashed around for a long time.
It was nice to have my Sweetie walk the little dog so I didn't have to do it when I did chores. I find it pretty awkward to have the little dog on a leash while I'm getting hay and water for the animals.
I helped him move some sheets of plywood around in the garage, and he identified some more odds and ends that he would be happy to give to someone for smaller projects.
With the things he donated yesterday, we had room to stack the pile of OSB that has been sitting in a pile beside the house for the last two years.
The concrete pad beside the house is getting so close to being cleared off now, after the stacks of siding and insulation got used on the house, some lumber put away, I put away some things, and some things went to the dump. I would say about 75% of what was there at the start of the summer is now used, put away, or gone.
Then we went to the barn to see River.
Of course, they were just being fed as I went out to catch River, so I said "let's give him some time to eat" and we sat in the arena and visited with the Sunday Rider as she worked with her horse for a while.
This thing is mystifying. I won't even say that it is K's fault, but how is he ALWAYS feeding the horses right as I arrive? I'm not even there at the same time every day. My ride time is ABOUT five pm., but I get there anywhere from right at five, to often more like 5:30, and today I got there at 6:15 because Sunday is more flexible because there are no lessons.
K always says "oh well, he can eat in the stall" (all the stalls have hay in them, so you can brush and tack up in a stall and let them eat), but that might give him 15 minutes to eat, which is not enough food.
So we gave him about 15 minutes to eat with the other horses, and another 15 in the stall as we were getting ready.
He did really well today. He did really well on our "away" circle, even getting up to a trot, and he was in a good mood. He did well on our ridden work, which was mostly spirals at the trot and canter.
We came home and had supper, and that's about it.
I learned about Lignum Vitae, a very hard, dense wood that is weather resistant, salt-resistant, and self-lubricating. It was used to make bearings, ship and airplane propellers, cricket balls, and tool handles.
