Seeing some Northern Lights the last night or two. One of the perks of living this far North.
That even though I started off in a pretty crappy mood when I got up, going to the riding barn and being with the horses and being active helped a lot.
It was hard to work with River since R had a whole bunch of obstacles set up in the arena, but we made do. He really wasn't that into the work today, and really got stuck on the turn on the hind quarters, which is something he knows, but he never shows any enthusiasm for doing them.
He did better with our draw circles at Liberty, and our ridden work, and the bowing.
I know he's a feeling creature, and he likely has good days and moody days just like the rest of us.
Then I stayed to work with Quidley, the project horse. The girl with many challenges had her lesson at the same time. She is making some progress with trotting, something she only recently started doing. She is also doing some riding where she actually controls the pony, where she used to always be on a lead line. Her body is not very strong, so for her, being able to hold herself up in the saddle correctly is a big deal.
Quidley did well. He is starting to relax a bit sooner in the session. I make a point of the first five minutes or so is very low key, just standing quietly mostly, because he often comes into the arena a little worried, like he has antsy feet. I want him to be patient and able to stand still.
It got fairly cold today, so the back to back sessions in the unheated arena got me fairly chilled.
My Sweetie went to the rock climbing gym after work, and got home only a few minutes before I did.
I had a bath to warm up and he made supper.
I learned about the Edwards Aquifer in Texas, (a deep system that holds groundwater). It is mostly made of limestone, with a lot of pockets and caverns and connected tubes. It is a diverse ecology, with many species of fish, salamanders, and crustaceans living deep underground.
