Today I am grateful for:

Nice weather, just a hair above freezing.

I was able to get up a bit early (for me) to get Sprite to the vet.

She has been eating fairly normally again, but I figure she hasn't even been for a checkup for a while, so if nothing else we'll call it that.

The vet was a bit concerned about how when you palpated Sprite's abdomen, it felt like the intestinal wall was slightly thickened, which indicates some inflammation consistent with Inflammatory Bowel, which is unfortunately kind of a blanket name for something that can have a wide range of causes.

She HAS been licking the hair from her belly too, which also points to her being uncomfortable.

So, while her general health isn't too bad right now, and MOST of her blood work is perfect, there's a bit of concern towards kidney function or pancreas.

We're going back on Thursday to do another test for the kidney/pancreas.

I'm trying not to freak out, but it's hard not to. This is kind of how things went with Fatty, too. Fatty was not particularly old when he died. Sprite is about nine years old, and to me, far too young to have something like this going on.

It would be nice if they could tell you what CAUSES this kind of thing, and if there's anything you can do to prevent it.

That took up a good chunk of my day.

I did pick up some butter to do a bit of baking (that I won't be able to eat), since I have no idea anymore what we have at home besides a block that my husband keeps in the fridge.

When I got home, my Sweetie had pretty much just gotten home too. He met up with someone in the city, to buy a balance board. Since we could not find one we liked in the city this past weekend, I figured we should look on Marketplace, and lo and behold, we found a brand new one (people bought it for their two year old child, not realizing it was meant for adults) for half the new price. Yay!

After we ate and decompressed for a while, I figured we needed to get straight to baking, since I will be fairly busy for the rest of the week, and the event I need it for (a fun gathering at the barn for the clients) is this upcoming Sunday.

I made a double batch of something that is very simple, but tasty, mostly a graham crumb base with a layer of sweetened condensed milk, coconut, almond flakes, and chocolate chips all melted together.

I will take one batch to the barn party, and have another one on standby in the freezer in case we are invited to something else.

My husband also wants to bake some cookies or something to give to the staff of the building where our Craft Center is located, as our leadership people think it's good PR to be nice to our "landlords".

Then we did all the washing up, and he pretty much had to go to bed.

He did show me a fun thing we can do close to Christmas, just us, is a "Die Hard" musical Christmas play in the city, which sounds just too good to pass up.

I think it's pretty sweet that he actually found something fun like this for us to go do together.

I learned that Thurl Ravenscroft sang the "Grinch" song, and he was also the voice of Tony the Tiger, and was uncredited for both of those works. He did a lot of voice work for Disney, sang with a number of hit-making artists in the 1950's and 60's, and did a lot of voice work for other cartoons and commercials.

You made my favourite thing to bring to extended family gatherings - we call them Hello Dolly bars here. They have seven layers. I always add maraschino cherries and butterscotch chips, bad as they are. I might try them this year with sweetened condensed coconut milk and see how that goes.
