Dec. 14th, 2023 10:58 pmToday I am grateful for:
A quiet day at home. Still gorgeous weather.
I am getting CLOSE to having my Christmas cards ready to mail. I know I'm cutting it close, but it's also just fine if they get there a little late.
I finally got to talk to my sister E, and she wasn't in a store or driving. We had a pretty lengthy call, a lot of it was me interested in clarifying the one room school stuff, and making sure I got that all right. It ended up as a discussion of early family events.
I find it fascinating to talk about my parents, as my Dad died right after I was born, and I never knew him. My Mom was also a very different person after his death, and in my family everything is kind of "before" and "after" his death, with my birth happening at that same time. By the time I was born, my older siblings were adults, and did not live at home. It's like there are two families, the oldest four girls, and the younger five kids. Our experiences were very different.
She is pretty much the best person to talk about that stuff with now, as my Mom doesn't remember much, and my sister N is unreliable in her version of events (she has a very loose grip on reality, and you can't be sure if what she "remembers" is real, or her mind filling in blanks in her recollection).
I was outside during the call, just being with the ponies and goats in their larger pasture. They all enjoy foraging in the snow.
My Sweetie came home and put the big water tub for the goats/ponies inside the insulated box he built. It should hopefully mean that the heater in the water doesn't have to work as hard.
Then we folded several loads of laundry that were dry, and put it all away, and changed the sheets, and I washed those too.
So, a VERY quiet day, but that's fine too.
I learned that there is a very old form of sign language officially titled Plains Indian Sign Language, that was used to communicate with hearing impaired individuals, but was also a more universal language that could be used between tribes where their spoken language was different. Some of it is used in modern American Sign Language.
