Dec. 30th, 2023 01:44 amToday I am grateful for:
Mild weather.
A good phone conversation with Sister S (the one who sold her tax preperation/accounting business this year). We talked about how now that she is at home, retired, instead of working ALL THE TIME, she is starting to think about their house more, and sorting through things, considering downsizing possessions, wondering how to move the washer/dryer upstairs and where it would go, and so on.
She's finally got the time to assess things, and it sounds like with her back bothering her so much, something is going to have to change. She doesn't physically have the strength to keep up with their yard, or to go into their basement for any reason, and maybe their house is no longer the best option for them.
Her husband is a fair bit younger than she is, but he doesn't enjoy the stairs either.
I know that she's motivated a bit by the changes our Sister E made this year, downsizing to a smaller house in town, and getting rid of a TON of stuff.
My husband came home a little early today, and as we had discussed, worked on something relating to the house so we could make progress. He worked on the doors to the shower/tub unit in the bathroom downstairs. It's more complicated than he thought it would be when he started it weeks ago (which is why it got abandoned), but it has to be done for the bathroom to be usable.
I still don't feel good about how things went. Sure, he's agreed to do more on the house, but it was ground bought dearly.
I did go see River, there were no lessons this week, so no lesson with the girl with health challenges and no working with Quidley, so I got home earlier too.
River did well. He's getting better at the difference between "away" and "draw" circles.
He did well in our ridden work, doing some very nice halts.
I came home and made supper as my husband finished up for the night on the doors. Then we watched more of "The Expanse".
If you like Science Fiction, and maybe even if you don't (the human story line is really good), this is such a good series. I find that there is a lot going on in it, and I did have to keep reading online synopsis for the episodes to make sure I didn't miss anything, but it is intelligently written and interesting.
I also started reading the books, because whenever a movie or series is good, it just makes me want to read the source material because there's almost always a deeper insight into the characters, or things that are difficult to portray visually.
I learned that it is possible for amateur radio enthusiasts to reach the International Space Station and communicate with them.
