Jan. 15th, 2024 12:38 amToday I am grateful for:
That we have a routine now for this colder weather, and it helps to know what you are supposed to be doing.
A quiet day at home, which is fine. I'm starting to get a little bit cabin-feverish though, after several days of more or less being inside other than doing chores. In weather like this, you don't go anywhere if you don't have to.
Hans and Jones are starting to use the cat wheel on their own a little bit, and they are happy to use it when I use treats as motivation.
I'm very grateful that Wonder seems to be doing okay on her own. She is likely lonely, but she is eating and not panicking.
That gives us some breathing room to figure out our options for her; either another animal, or maybe moving the ponies to where she can see them, or a foster. Not sure yet.
I don't want to rush into anything, because I know that any animal we get is very likely going to be a permanent resident.
My husband did a bit of work in the basement, mostly trying to understand how some of the basement wiring was connected. It was done by the contractor when he did the other work in the basement, but apparently it is done in a not very well considered way. Or, not the way my husband would have done it. Nothing "bad", just not how my husband would have done it, so he's trying to just understand what wires go where etc. because he still has other outlets and fixtures to install down there.
I did more work on the porch, sanding and more mudding. I feel like I am lining the whole porch with drywall mud. It's partly because one wall is the original lath and plaster, and all cracked and crumbling and we probably should have taken off the plaster and put up drywall. I had to more or less build a corner out of plaster where the old house meets the addition because it had all crumbled.
It feels like it's taking me forever.
Then we had supper and watched some of "The Expanse". I am jokingly calling it "How tired is Holden today?" because one of the characters is named Holden, and he's kind of being portrayed as Space Jesus with the weight of the whole of humanity on his shoulders, so they keep showing him as being more and more and more tired, and often beat up or sick from radiation, or whatever. He's tired, y'all.
I learned that there had been a Nazi concentration camp on the island of Alderney, which is a "British Crown Dependency". It's actually very close to France.
