Today I am grateful for:

Well, now my husband doesn't think that there was anything wrong with the septic system at all, that the float attached to the overflow alarm must have hung up on something to set it off, because the tank seems to be doing it's thing just fine.

Well, I don't know. I guess we'll see. If he keeps checking on it to make sure it's not over filled, that's okay too.

So, we apparently didn't need to smell bad for three days and hoard our flushes. ?

I had a nice phone conversation with Mom, and she seemed very cheerful today. We talked mostly about the birds that come to her feeder, and expressed awe at their ability to survive in the cold weather. She is always happy about the food there, and always has something good to say about it, which is really nice. I'm glad she looks forward to the meals and enjoys eating them.

Today was still in the -20's, but was otherwise fine. Still too cold to let the goats back outside, mainly because that's just such a drastic change from the garage, which is kept at about 5 C. Normally -20 C is fine for the goats, but maybe not after being so warm for a week.

After doing normal chores today, I was able to go to town.

It was so nice to be able to GO SOMEWHERE.

I picked up my husband's pants from the seamstress, and while it was pricier than I thought it would be, if it makes these three pair of pants wearable to my husband, then good. Better than them being wasted.

Then I went to Winner's for retail therapy, and found a few nice things. Mostly I enjoyed being in a big, bright, open space.

Then I got groceries, a fairly major haul this time. I haven't gone shopping for the last two weeks, and my husband only picked up what was absolutely necessary.

He kind of hates doing a serious shopping trip, because I think he feels like he's "saving money" by buying less, except that he's really just not buying enough food to last more than a few days.

It drives me nuts that if you let him guide the grocery process, he turns every trip to town that was supposed to be a fun day into "we have to get some food on the way out". Or, you just run out of things.

For me, I want to do it ONCE, and I go hard and buy all the stuff on sale in multiples rather than just buy one, because it's ON SALE. If it's things we eat all the time, like his brand of cereal or a very good price on bread, then why not buy what you have room for, since otherwise you'll just be buying it again at the higher price in a week?

I hate running out of things like coffee or eggs or not having any fresh vegetables because my husband wants to buy less at a time.

I know this comes from him living away from home, where he tries to only have on hand what he can use up in a week, but that's not how we have to do things at home.

Anyhow, I am grateful for my car, that it is running again, that it wasn't too cold to go shopping, to have the physical strength, the time, and the means to get food.

I came home, and he helped me put everything away, and we watched another episode of "The Expanse".

I learned that Tom Jones had Elton John (before he was famous AT ALL) play keyboard on the original recording of "It's Not Unusual". I don't know if this did a lot to boost Elton's career or not, but it's kind of interesting.
