Today I am grateful for:

Though there was a pretty cold wind today, the temperature was around -10 C and quite bearable.

I spoke with Sister E for a while, and she was very excited about some art things she did. She attended one of those paint nights, and a community one-day mug decorating class.

She was really excited about the classes, though really, she could have easily been taking those when they lived on the acreage too, if she were willing to drive the ten minutes into town. Somehow living in town has given her "permission" to start doing these things.

Anyhow, I'm glad she's doing them, and I'm happy that she's having fun.

Though I am out of practice in "leaving the yard", I managed to drag myself to the pottery studio, and it's good that I did.

I did throw some forms that will hopefully become mugs, assessed the tea pots (not quite dry yet), and wedged some clay for the next time.

The former dog-walking friend and one other person came in. The former dog-walking friend likes to talk about herself a lot, she's "kind of a big deal, you know". She talked about how well she speaks French (her parents spoke it around her as a child), so she should have no problem speaking Portuguese, which she would like to learn. She says she should probably learn Ukrainian too. Why not.

She talked about how she and her husband just got back from Nevada, and how "really, the Grand Canyon is MUCH better in the off season", the way they did it. No one around, no tour buses, just them alone in the cold, sitting in their rented vehicle, looking out at the vastness. Amazing how they could just drive from one outlook point to another and experience it that way.

She also is a pretty big deal at work, she's the one her company wanted to find new software for them to use this year, and "they trust her so much they don't even need to see the software, they just trust her judgement". I'm like, ummm, that's your job, right? So you're doing your job?

And so on. She's truly amazing.

Thing is, I don't doubt that she is smart and talented, I just get tired of hearing about it every pottery class. I mean, there's me and one other person in that room, why is she trying that hard to impress us?

I can't remember ever trying that hard to impress...pretty much anyone.

Anyhow, it was nice to go to pottery, good to throw something again, nice to stay in the habit of mentally being ready to leave the house and go somewhere.

I came home and chatted with my husband. Nothing happened on the house today.

We need to put in some kind of utility sink in the mud room, it's been put off too long. On top of all the other half-baked projects lying around, the mud room needs to happen too. We're looking at installing a big steel sink, similar to what restaurants use, because it will see lots of abuse. A plastic sink would work too, but would get scratched up very badly. This sink would be for filling water pails for ponies when the outside taps freeze up, for washing the mud off vegetables, for washing filthy horse related items, and so on.

We're beginning our search at used restaurant equipment places in the city.

I learned about the origin of dumbbells.
