Today I am grateful for:

Sunshine and reasonable temperatures.

Waking up to the lovely kitties, and sweet Roxy.

I felt motivated to tidy up the dining room, which has felt like a "no man's land" for a while, with books piled everywhere and boxes for the kitties to play in. I hadn't vacuumed the rug in there for some time.

I put most of the boxes out to recycle, put away the books, and did my best to just clear that space. I was able to vacuum the rug, too. It's much more pleasant now.

I corralled a bunch of socks that I will approve my husband's permission to toss. I tossed a few other little things that have been garbage for some time, just hadn't made it to the bin. It all adds up.

I was on time for my lesson today, but realized I needed fuel, and that put me behind. Very frustrating, as I try to be punctual.

Fortunately R didn't have another lesson after mine today, so me being a few minutes late wasn't too bad.

We ended up running a LOT over, due to just really getting stuck on the details of a draw circle issue.

Honestly, I don't know why things got so stuck today. I don't think I had any real issue understanding what R was talking about, but she got into this "skipping record" mode where she just kept repeating herself over and over and over, thinking somehow that this would make things more clear, which they certainly did not.

I actually DID understand her the first time, I just need time to put it into practice. She THOUGHT I didn't understand, and just HARPED on it for like, 15 minutes. I was so overwhelmed I literally had to interject and say "we have to stop, I can't process what you're saying anymore".

Somehow that broke her train of thought, and we were able to move on, but that was awful. Like some kind of OCD thing.

So here's the thing; she wants everyone to join a different Liberty association; one that is just starting. A person she admires has started it. I am skeptical, because it's starting to feel like it's not going to have a real standardization, just things he does his own way. So we'll be doing patterns he designs, and I have looked at the patterns and I already see flaws in them (as in, they won't flow well, and he doesn't have ANY videos up as to how to do them).

I'm seeing red flags.

When you do a pattern, it should be very clear how it is to be done, how the points will be earned, and it should flow. In practicing a simple pattern of his, I already see how it isn't going to work well, I see ambiguity and a lack of clarity in how it should be executed. How can it be scored objectively if there is "more than one way" to do a movement?

Also, it looks like he stole it entirely from the ILHA (the association we WERE testing with), only he changed one or two little things. Things that make it a bad pattern now.

This guy is kind of a friend of R's, she takes online training from him, and she wants to support him in his endeavor. It would be a big deal if she's a friend of his, and his new association takes off.

I think it's going to suck, but I also think that even if it does suck, R is going to keep supporting his platform out of loyalty and unwilling to admit she's wrong.

Sigh.

Overall, our lesson sucked big time, and I hope I'm wrong and it won't all suck, but....

Anyhow.

I came home and my Sweetie came not long afterwards. We agreed that we can do something nice together this weekend and call it Valentine's Day, since today is too hard to do anything after work/my lesson.

He did have a nice card for me that he wrote some sweet things inside, and that's actually pretty nice. He isn't big on being sentimental, and this showed some thought went into it. I thought that was pretty sweet.

New Zealand is an island country, separate from Australia, consisting mainly of two large islands (North Island and South Island), but also 700 small islands. The South Island is very mountainous, with fjords carved into it from the last glaciation period. The North island is also mountainous, but has active volcanoes. The area is prone to earthquakes.

It was the last large island area to be inhabited by people, and Polynesians settled there around the 1200's, to become the Maori people.

Some explorers found it, and before you know it, it became a British colony in 1841. This led to the pretty standard conflicts between the natural inhabitants and the white devils, and after lots and lots of fighting and unpleasantness, New Zealand gained independence in 1947 while still having the Monarch of England as the head of state.

So, now it still has the monarch as the head of state, but also has a parliamentary democracy with a Prime Minister.

There are 5.2 million people there now, primarily of European descent, with the original Maori people being the MOST minor group (there are many other Asian people there as well), and still discriminated against.

In general it is a nice place, with good human rights, safety, and so on. Very safe and pleasant.

New Zealand has a big presence among the other islands of Oceania. So many of the people of these other islands who are leaving from lack of opportunity and threat from rising oceans seek to work and immigrate to New Zealand, since it has at least SOME resemblance to their own islands, and is peaceful.

The island has some remarkable native plants and animals, as it has been geographically isolated for 80 million years. We are familiar with the flightless Kiwi, and there are a number of other flightless species that evolved there. Some of the creatures that live there have barely changed for millions of years, making them "living fossils".

Of course, all kinds of native birds and other animals are threatened by the human introduction of rats and cats and dogs.

Historically New Zealand's economy was based on extraction of natural resources like wood (forests are pretty much gone now), sealing and whaling, flax, Kauri gum (a tree gum). Now, a lot of their economy comes from agricultural exports.

There is a large gap between wealthy and lower classes, as most of the money is tied up in the 1 per cent.

It is famous for being the film location of "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" movies, and MANY other big budget films come to New Zealand now. It's becoming a big industry.

Famous New Zealand people include Taika Waititi, and "Flight of the Conchords" comedy duo.
