Mar. 14th, 2024 02:18 amToday I am grateful for:
Sleeping in the basement bedroom was a decent option for me, while the handy man worked upstairs. I had all the cats and Roxy down there with me, and they were a bit upset about that, but settled down. Having them down there gave the handy man the freedom to work without worrying about him letting them out or having them in the way.
There is NO WAY I could have gotten any sleep if I had to try and sleep upstairs. He had an air compressor for his tools that was switching on every half an hour or so (VERY LOUD, even downstairs).
I didn't have a GREAT sleep, but at least I was out of the way and the cats were safe.
When I came upstairs, he was just about finished the window frames on the main floor, and they looked pretty good to me. We talked for a while, and I ran a few things past him if he wanted to keep working after he was done with the window frames.
The staining/painting of these window frames will be up to me, but that shouldn't be too horrible.
I have to say, I think a mountain was made of a molehill about these window frames. My husband probably COULD have done these over the course of a weekend if he wanted to, but somehow kept making out that this was some incredibly technical thing. It really doesn't seem like it was that difficult, and this handy man will probably put in around 12 hours total on them.
We waited for two years to hear back from the last contractor who started the work, and somehow my husband made it sound like there was NO WAY we should try to finish them ourselves. Now that I have the chance to see the work this handy man is doing, it really doesn't look like anything my husband couldn't have done. Really frustrating that I had to look at raw window holes for two years just because of my husband's procrastination.
We have ALL KINDS of door frames and other windows in the addition that need finishing, plus a wall upstairs that we are going to open up to install a set of glass doors.
I'm going to talk with my husband about some of these things, figure out what we can spend, and see if we can't keep going with this guy. So far, he shows up, does his work well, and has been good to work with.
If he can keep working on stuff, and we can afford it, I'd like to keep tying up loose ends.
I know my husband wanted to do EVERYTHING himself, but he just doesn't have the time. He also TAKES HIS TIME doing things, and stuff like finishing window and door frames is VERY low priority and could easily never get done at all (we had an interior door in the trailer that got installed, but never had a finished door frame in something like six or seven years).
The last big push of actual shit getting done was the last time we had a contractor do all that work in the basement, and that will be two years ago this summer. We got SO MUCH DONE by hiring someone, and it kind of gave my husband the motivation to work on things too.
We need to keep that motivation rolling. He can't ever be allowed to think that things are "good enough" when everything is still in such a rough, half-finished state. I know that there are things he could look at FOREVER and they would be "good enough" for him.
I went to see River for our lesson, and that went well. We worked on a change in direction at Liberty that we haven't done in a while, other refinements on our circles, and some ridden work where we looked at what we might do for the next online show.
The Sunday rider was here today for a lesson. I joked around with her a bit. I don't know if it went over well or if she thinks I'm a lunatic. I mean well, but I sometimes wonder if anyone at the riding barn actually has much of a sense of humor.
I came home and my Sweetie arrived about the same time. He had a good night of rock climbing. He's been doing really well with it, and I can tell he finds a lot of satisfaction in climbing new routes. I'm really glad he's been able to do this through the winter to stay active and have something fun outside of work.
I have to still pick things up upstairs so that the handy man can get to the windows, but it shouldn't be too awful.
Bosnia-Herzegovina is another country in the Balkan Peninsula. It has about 12 miles of coastline on the Adriatic Sea, and that's it's only access to open water.
It was part of the Roman Empire, then being the Kingdom of Bosnia some time after the fall of Rome. In the 15th century it became part of the Ottoman Empire, and remained that way right up until pretty much the end of the Ottoman Empire in the 1800's.
Then it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After WWI it was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and after WWII it was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as it's own region within it.
The Bosnian War (partly due to instability from the collapse of Yugoslavia), between 1992 and 1995 ended with the Dayton Agreement, a peace treaty.
Sarajevo, the capital city, was where the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated; one of the factors that set off WWI.
WWII, Bosnia and Herzegovina was conquered by Germany, and controlled by the puppet regime of the Independent State of Croatia. Many Jewish people, Croatian people, Romani, and Serbian people were targeted and killed, some in death camps others in outright exterminations.
Modern Bosnia and Herzegovina is a Liberal Democracy.
"Bosnia and Herzegovina is a developing country and ranks 74th in the Human Development Index. Its economy is dominated by industry and agriculture, followed by tourism and the service sector. Tourism has increased significantly in recent years.[14][15] The country has a social-security and universal-healthcare system, and primary and secondary level education is free. It is a member of the UN, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, the Partnership for Peace, and the Central European Free Trade Agreement; it is also a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean, established in July 2008.[16] Bosnia and Herzegovina is an EU candidate country and has also been a candidate for NATO membership since April 2010.[17]"
It is mainly mountainous, containing part of the Dinaric Alps, as well as many beautiful forests. It has mainly a Mediterranean climate. Tourism is becoming a big part of it's economy.

Date: 2024-03-16 05:43 am (UTC)Last night I had the kind of sleep that's more of a half-sleep, or a rest, something that isn't deep and restorative. Young Mungo was restless and needed supervision, even in his bin, so I stayed with him on a pile of raggy comforters.
I did have a dream that I was in Japan, having black garlic ramen at a famous restaurant. I showed the proprietors a bowl I had purchased at a thrift shop, and they were very impressed by it. I had one bowl of ramen and asked for another, but they told me they'd run out; I could have dumplings instead (which I did not want). Now why would I dream something like that?
