Today I am grateful for:

The weather is cooler, and more like you'd expect for March, but still reasonably pleasant.

It might snow or rain, which is good for living things.

I did put light blankets on Wonder here at home, and River at the barn. The ponies won't need them, they will actually use their shed while the other two seem to not believe in shelter.

I texted a bit with D from pottery to catch up on her life, since her Dad is living with her. She says that his aneurysm is swelling again, though it may or may not be an issue. Who knows. She has a new puppy too, and it's keeping her busy to have both her Dad and a puppy in her house at the same time.

I went to see River at the barn, and he was a bit more awake today. We ran through our usual Liberty work, and he did it all fairly willingly.

I rode him for a while, and worked on control to get good circles (a lot of that, isn't there?) at a trot.

As I mentioned, I put a light blanket on him since it's supposed to either rain or snow, and it will keep him dry.

R was around, and I chatted with her. Mostly about her plot with her Mom to get her parents another small dog so that her Dad has company again. It is a bit of a plot, in that her Dad seems to protest about getting pets, until they are there, and then he loves them and it gives him something to care about.

What's funny, is that apparently R's Mom is "very particular about her house" (thus the importance of finding a breed of small dog that will not mess up the house), and R was defending her own somewhat imperfect and chaotic house (I think it's probably very tidy compared to our house). It was just some personal insight about R that I rarely get to see. She's really a very driven and organized person, and it's hard to think that she has anything at all to feel insecure about.

My Sweetie stopped in at the barn just long enough to say hi (and I love it when he does so). He had taken the new to us truck to work today so he could buy the lumber we need for the handy man to work on things.

When I got home we had a bath, then supper, and watched an episode of "Boardwalk Empire".

Czechia, (The Republic of Czechia) is a land locked country formerly known as Bohemia (that's mainly the Western part). It is three regional identities merged into one new one (Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia) It is tucked in just below German and Poland, and right above Austria.

Side note: we have the word "bohemian" that describes free spirits, and it is thought to be derived from the lifestyle of the Romani people who some of which came from Bohemia.

Also a side note, there were three important "Defenestration Events" in Prague: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defenestrations_of_Prague

It was more recently known as Czechoslovakia.

It is landlocked, but leases three ports in Hamburg, Germany, and access those ports via the Elbe River, a very important waterway. Those leases are near the end of their contract, and being renegotiated.

Czechia is not to be confused with Chechnya, which is a republic within Russia, and they're not close to each other in terms of distance.

It was once an Imperial State in the Holy Roman Empire, and was gradually annexed into the lands controlled by the Habsburg monarchy, then became part of the Austrian Empire.

Czechoslovakia came into existence after WWI and the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is notable that between the two world wars, this region was able to remain a parliamentary democracy.

Germany did take over after the Munich Agreement in 1938 (leading to the near-annihilation of all the Jewish people and Romany people that have long lived here), but Czechoslovakia was restored in 1945.

Three years later, it became part of the Eastern Block, and was communist. " In November 1989, the Velvet Revolution ended communist rule in the country and restored democracy. On 31 December 1992, Czechoslovakia was peacefully dissolved, with its constituent states becoming the independent states of the Czech Republic and Slovakia."

It's doing well economically, with automotive manufacturing and an enormous production and love of beer. ENORMOUS LOVE OF BEER. They are also the world's largest manufacturer of vinyl records, and there is lots and lots of tourism (Prague is lovely).

Geography: think of it as a giant bowl with mountains all around the outside. Not as much forest as other middle European countries, and lots and lots of rolling farmland to produce the wheat and barley to make all of that BEER.

They do have some fantastic mountainous regions, some of which can be seen in the movie "Narnia".

Over all, a decent country in terms of human rights, economy, and so on.
