Mar. 21st, 2024 11:03 pmToday I am grateful for:
Okay day weather wise. Sunshine.
No pressure to go anywhere, so I stayed home.
I did talk to Trainwreck, I didn't ask about the dog, but Sister E said the breeders had someone else who said they wanted one, so at least that has been resolved without Trainwreck getting kicked out of the lodge.
Overall our conversation was low key, which is how I like it.
She did mention that a friend of hers is being harassed by and ex-husband, so of course her solution is to hire a hit man; she says she knows one. Of course she does.
I tried not to react to it, which is really all Trainwreck wants, but it's kind of hilarious in its own awful way. I told her that her friend should at least consider whether or not it's worth it to go to jail over.
When you think about it, if they DID try to hire this guy, what do they think would happen? He would only take the money they agreed upon and they would NEVER hear about it again? No, this guy would blackmail the absolute shit out of her friend, and likely my sister too.
OR, he would be a broken down 70 year old biker guy who maybe never did anything like this and is lying, would mess it up, and then the husband would retaliate.
OR, the husband would just offer the guy more money, to go kill the ex wife.
Have they never even seen an Elmore Leonard movie? Not one?
Well, whatever. I'm sure it's not going to be something I have to worry about.
I went outside and spent some time just being with Wonder, the goats, the ponies. Dandy (spunky little pony) got super pony zoomies and had a great time in their bigger pasture.
My Sweetie picked up a few things, small amount of groceries, a gallon of paint, the mail, on his way home from work.
He came home and spent a bit more time in the porch, but added new mud instead of being finished, so that delays me being able to prime it.
We have spent FAR TOO MUCH TIME mudding this stupid porch. It is literally about four by 5 feet, but every last bit of it seems to be built out of drywall mud now. He went over it some time last year a bit, then I went over it about four times, then HE went back over it about four times now. It's never going to be perfect, and it's very frustrating.
In and around other things, I managed to do several loads of laundry, fold and put away some of it, and change the sheets.
We watched another episode of "Boardwalk Empire". It's a pretty good show.
Sometimes it's hard to really fathom the age of some cities. Minsk, still a major city in Belarus, was believed to have been founded in 1067.
Belarus is land locked, and right up against Russia.
It has had the same long history of being sacked and taken over by lots and lots of groups like the Slavs, and lost land, and regained land, and changed names.
It was constantly attacked by the Mongols, but was not considered part of the Mongolian Empire. Instead, it joined forces with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. This was a good move, and gave them time to form an identity of Belarus.
They fought with Poland against the Teutonic Knights, and against the Muscovites.
Then, Lithuania (thus Belarus) united with Poland through a marriage, and the whole region became much more Polish, using the language and the religion (Catholic).
"The union between Poland and Lithuania ended in 1795 with the Third Partition of Poland by Imperial Russia, Prussia, and Austria.[45] The Belarusian territories acquired by the Russian Empire under the reign of Catherine II[46] were included into the Belarusian Governorate (Russian: Белорусское генерал-губернаторство) in 1796 and held until their occupation by the German Empire during World War I.[47]"
Now the region of Belarus was "Russianized", banning the Polish and Belarusian languages and the switch to Orthodox Christianity.
THEN "During the negotiations of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, Belarus first declared independence under German occupation on 25 March 1918, forming the Belarusian People's Republic.[52][53] Immediately afterwards, the Polish–Soviet War ignited, and the territory of Belarus was divided between Poland and Soviet Russia.[54] The Rada of the Belarusian Democratic Republic exists as a government in exile ever since then; in fact, it is currently the world's longest serving government in exile.[55]"
I can't do it. This just happens over and over again. Just like Poland.
In WWII, Belarus was controlled by Russia, but was then occupied by Germany, who did the same thing here as they did in Poland, just razed everything in their path and killed millions, and just about wiped out the Jewish population.
Post war, Stalin placed Russians in key positions in Belarus to try to influence the country's culture and "protect" it from the West.
It was supposed to be moving towards Democracy, but after the first and only REAL election in 1994, Alexander Lukashenko has been President ever since. So, that's not very Democratic.
Human Rights: "The Belarusian government is also criticized for human rights violations and its persecution of non-governmental organizations, independent journalists, national minorities, and opposition politicians.[188][189] Lukashenko announced a new law in 2014 that will prohibit kolkhoz workers (around 9% of total work force) from leaving their jobs at will—a change of job and living location will require permission from governors. The law was compared with serfdom by Lukashenko himself.[192][193] Similar regulations were introduced for the forestry industry in 2012.[194] Belarus is the only European country still using capital punishment, having carried out executions in 2011.[195] LGBT rights in the country are also ranked among the lowest in Europe.[196] In March 2023, Lukashenko signed a law which allows to use capital punishment against officials and soldiers convicted of high treason.[197]"
Belarus mainly exports heavy machinery, agricultural products, and energy.
Belarus isn't outstanding in the geography area, not having any mountains or access to open water. It's a lot of rolling hills, rivers, lakes, and farm land. Big areas are off limits as they were heavily affected by radiation from Chernobyl.

Date: 2024-03-23 07:47 am (UTC)He hasn't been "that guy" for about 30 years now.
BUT, there are lots of old, nasty dirt bags in every corner of the country who say they're bikers and dangerous, and so on.
BUT, even considering that as a solution is NOT going to work out for anyone, is it? Any crusty old biker who says he's going to off the old man for cash, he's going to have a heart of gold and only do it for the right reasons, right?
Certainly he's never going to brag about that to someone else, or throw my sister and her friend under the bus if he's caught, or if someone wants to know who hired him, right?
I really don't think my sister is serious about it, it's just exactly the sort of thing she likes to say because she LOVES to be outrageous and shocking, and now that's pretty much all she has left.
Not only that, this friend of hers, who is likely just like my sister; likely a lifelong alcoholic/addict with her own "quirks" likely contributed to the situation with her husband. They are likely BOTH complete wastes of oxygen.
