Today I am grateful for:

Getting a bit more sleep today. I've been running a bit low lately.

A decent phone call with Trainwreck, where I didn't feel frustrated with her. It's nice that a few of them have been more like this lately.

She did mention that sister S had some kind of eye surgery, and plans to have back surgery, neither of which did Sister S mention last time we talked. I hope it helps, she's had chronic back problems for decades.

Trainwreck mentioned wanting to sew again. I wonder if she's serious. She used to sew rather well, but it's probably been 25 years since she sewed, maybe more. She did have a sewing machine in the trailer, but of course she couldn't USE it because there was no space anywhere to sew or set up a table. I don't know if there's any room in her new place, either. Well, who knows.

I went to see River, and the cut below his eye is looking better. It's scabbed over nicely, and there's no puffiness or anything.

We didn't have a great session. Our groundwork was good. I chose to ride him with the saddle today, though I have used the bareback pad most of the winter.

I don't know if the saddle felt strange to him after all this time, or what, but he was very distracted and unsettled. I tried to give him space to relax by not really asking him to do anything complicated, but he was very anxious.

Basically he was fine at the walk, but I asked him to trot, and he kept breaking into a canter, so I'd ask him to come back to a trot, but after a short interval he'd canter again. Not exactly doing anything BAD, but it felt like he was anxious about something. I don't know if it was the saddle, or what.

So, that was most of the ridden part of our work, was just trying to help him relax, though we didn't quite get there.

Then I stayed and worked with Quidley during the other girl's lessons. He did well today. He's getting a lot better with the groundwork. I spent some time just having him stand quietly, as this is not always his strength. He kind of fusses and moves around a lot.

My Sweetie went to the climbing gym after work today with a guy who has been a co-worker (when he worked on a different project) who also climbs sometimes.

We had supper and caught up with each other's day, and watched another episode of "Boardwalk Empire".

Monaco is a Sovereign City-State with a constitutional monarchy (a king and a prime minister). With an area of 2.02 km2 (0.78 sq mi), it is the second-smallest sovereign state in the world, after Vatican City. With about 40,000 people, it is the most densely populated state in the world.

It is also one of the wealthiest and most expensive ones to live in.

Monaco is wealthy because it is another tax haven (seems to be how pretty much all tiny countries survive). As early as 1869, the principality abolished income tax, making it an attractive destination for the super-rich. Monaco's tax system is designed to encourage capital transfer and income generation without heavy taxation.

It was once part of the Holy Roman Empire, who gave it to the Genoese. A branch of that family, the Grimaldi, gained control of it. Things stayed that way until the French Revolution, when France annexed Monaco, but Napoleon's defeat ended up with Monaco going to the Kingdom of Sardinia (which fell under French influence).

Some people from Monaco served in WWI. They had signed the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, which established that Monégasque international policy would be aligned with French political, military and economic interests. So, during WWI the interests of Monaco were with those of France.

"Monaco was overrun by the Axis powers during the Second World War and for a short time was administered by Italy, then the Third Reich, before finally being liberated. Although the occupation lasted for just a short time, it resulted in the deportation of the Jewish population and execution of several resistance members from Monaco. Since then Monaco has been independent. It has taken some steps towards integration with the European Union."

There was some concern of succession, since Monaco has a Prince and a Prime Minister.

"In 2002, a new treaty between France and Monaco specified that, should there be no heirs to carry on the Grimaldi dynasty, the principality would still remain an independent nation rather than revert to France. Monaco's military defense is still the responsibility of France.[51][52]

On 31 March 2005, Rainier III, who was too ill to exercise his duties, relinquished them to his only son and heir, Albert."

Albert is the son of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly.

Geography: One side faces the French Riviera, and the other three sides are bordered by Alps. It has two very nice ports, no real agriculture, and the only other natural resource is fishing.

The administrative region of Monte Carlo is pretty famous for it's gambling, mainly for the Monte Carlo Casino.

Most of the 48,000 employees of various hotels and such in Monaco have to commute every day from mainly France, since none of them can afford to live in Monaco.

Since 1929, the Monaco Grand Prix car race is held on the streets of Monaco, as well as a Formula E circuit, and The Monte Carlo Rally race. So, rich people games, and things to bet on.

They also have rugby, football, and professional boxing, and a plethora of other things to bet on.
