Today I am grateful for:

Truly beautiful weather today. Warm and sunny.

I made a point of giving Wonder her "pasture time" (this time of year she can't be on green grass, so she has to be in a "dry lot" most of the time) before I went to pottery, since I would get home too late to do so.

I took the ponies over to the corral beside her pasture. The goats insisted on coming along, but that was a touch uncomfortable because they are not contained by a normal fence, so I had to stay and make sure they didn't wander.

They did want to wander, so I had to put a makeshift harness on Brownie, because if there is only one goat who can leave the corral, it won't go far on it's own.

Brownie was okay with being tethered for a while, but after a while it upset her, so at this point I figured they had been out long enough, and I took them all back to their usual pen.

Wonder wasn't "snorty" at all this time with having the ponies near her, which is nice.

I went to pottery, and a few people were still there. They did leave shortly after my arrival, but D stayed for another hour or so.

We had a good visit (she's the woman whose Father is now living with her, and her adult daughter just returned home). Her daughter is helping with her Father, so it's working out well, and D is having a bit more freedom.

I tried to do something different with an item I threw last week, I was trying to make holes in it (so you could put a candle inside), and it WAS working, but then the piece started to crack, so it was finished.

I did try to throw another similar piece, and I'm not sure if it will work or not, but whatever.

I wrapped things up in decent time to go get groceries, so it wasn't too hurried.

I am grateful for getting groceries, the whole process. I know what it means to be able to do this.

I came home and my Sweetie helped me put everything away, then he had to go to bed.

I watched an episode of "Sherlock". I've been watching them on the nights when we don't watch anything together.

Iran was once known as Persia.

It has also been inhabited for a LONG time, as it is the birthplace of civilization in what used to be Mesopotamia.

I am not going to go through all of it's historic rulers, just the highlights.

It was conquered by Alexander the Great in the fourth century, was later conquered by Arab Muslims in the 7th century (this was pretty much true for the entire Arabian peninsula), and then was ruled by native dynasties for a long time, then Mongols came and scattered it all, then the Iranian nation emerged in the 16th century.

"Under Nader Shah Afshar in the 18th century, Iran was a leading world power, though by the 19th century, it had lost significant territory through a series of conflicts with the Russian Empire. The early 20th century saw the Persian Constitutional Revolution, the establishment of the Pahlavi dynasty, and efforts at modernization. Attempts to nationalise the country's vast fossil fuel supply led to an Anglo-American coup in 1953. After the Iranian Revolution, the monarchy was overthrown in 1979 and the Islamic Republic of Iran was established by Ruhollah Khomeini, who became the country's first supreme leader. Iran is officially governed as an Islamic Republic with a presidential system, albeit with ultimate authority vested in a theocratic supreme leader (rahbar), currently Ali Khamenei since Khomeini's death in 1989. The Iranian government is authoritarian and has attracted widespread criticism for its constraints and violations of human rights."

During WWI, it hoped to remain neutral, but was occupied by Turkish, British and Russian soldiers, and the region then known as Persia was divided with the British in the South and the Russians in the North as "spheres of influence".

In WWII, the British and Russians felt that Iran/Persia was a bit sympathetic with the Germans, were worried that Iran might supply the Germans with oil, there were Germans within Iran that were not immediately expelled, and so on. More than enough reason for Britain and Russia to end up "securing their interests" there by military force and actions, though not officially declaring war.

There's kind of always something going on there for conflict, whether it's the Kurds, or Iraq, or ISIS.

This is an oil rich nation, and that is the driving heart of the economy. It is quite populous, with about 90 million people.

This is a fairly big, geographically diverse country. There are mountains (causing some earthquakes), vast forested regions, areas of grassy plains, coastline to the Caspian sea, the Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman, as well as deserts.

Iran has many Islands in the Persian Gulf/Gulf of Oman.

It's climate ranges from sub-tropical to arid desert. Animals include gazelles, cheetahs, jackals.

Wikipedia says Iran's human rights situation is "exceptionally bad". You name it, they did it. Bad stuff.

Not democratic at all, lots of corruption and outright just killing or detaining detractors of the government.

YET THERE IS TONS AND TONS OF TOURISM.

Iran has lots of manufacturing and exports of agricultural products, but sanctions are affecting the economy.

I do like pony snorts. And dog snorts, if and when they happen.

I think of snorting police horses I've seen... but I have no idea why they were snorting.

The pony squeal was featured in a song I'll post later this evening!
