May. 26th, 2024 01:54 amToday I am grateful for:
A pleasant day, sunny and warm without being hot.
I got up at a reasonable time for me.
My Sweetie took a load of that old grass to the dump before I got up, and I went with him to dump the second load.
We stopped in at our friend's house to pick up some peony roots she divided.
It was a bit of a struggle to get out of there, as this is the woman who talks in a never ending wall of talking and doesn't seem to care if you say things like "we need to leave". You always end up just getting into your vehicle while she is still talking and saying good bye. I always wonder if she perceives me as being rude, but I wonder how she misses my very obvious verbal and physical cues?
Then we went into the city for our fun day.
We went to the art gallery and saw the Tom Thompson gallery again, as well as "the top floor" gallery which is usually more "out there". The work in there today was actually very good (it's more hit and miss usually).
Then we went looking for a store that had a certain brand of watercolors on display, that we keep walking past because it's always closed. We managed to find it, after far too much walking in the wrong direction, but that's neither here nor there.
It's an odd store, supporting indigenous crafts and culture, but also LGBTQ community. I have only been somewhat aware of the slice of the pie chart where Indigenous culture has allied with the trans community because I guess the historical inclusion of two spirit people?
It's a bit unexpected to go into a store that says it's got art supplies and Indigenous crafts and the first thing you see is a rack of bras and underwear meant for trans people, the underwear to help "tuck".
I did get some of the watercolors, they're plastic free packaging.
Then we ate, and that was nice. Good people watching again.
We stuck our head into Winner's and my Sweetie got a dress belt for work.
Then we went to the corporate thrift store and I found a few items.
We came home and watched some "Boardwalk Empire".
I will say that I appreciate how my husband and I can enjoy art together. His parents took him to art galleries when he was younger, and though he himself isn't "artistic" he likes going to artsy things. I've never been with another guy who would care much at all for such things, I never went to art galleries with people I dated.
I'm glad that we have this. It can be one of those things you can talk a lot about, and we always ask "what painting would you take home" and sometimes we really love a painting that is still not something you'd want to have in your home, but it was striking.
