Today I am grateful for:

So many things. What a busy day today!

We had lovely weather, which was perfect for our Raku firing day. I was worried it would be windy.

That my husband got up before I did to meet and begin the work on our soffits/fascia with the two guys that came today. They got a good start on the front of the house, which I got to see later. It makes the exterior of the house look a lot more finished.

I managed to get up in decent time for me, so that we could get to the person's yard where we were doing Raku today.

Of course it wasn't just "get up and go". I had to do normal chores, but had to do kind of a "half now half later" feeding for everyone since it was way earlier than their usual feed time. I fed the other half when we got home from everything.

Then we had to go through the small city (it's on the way anyhow, so no biggie) to pick up some food to take, and to get the last pieces of Raku pottery that were just out of the bisque firing.

So we get all of that done, and then went to the location of the Raku firing.

It was a really good day, with seeing people we know from pottery, and in some cases we've known them (albeit in a limited fashion) for about ten years now.

I got some interesting results, which at some point I will post a few pictures.

The event was at a fellow potter's private home on their acreage, and they keep it very nicely. They have paths cut through the bush (something I would love to have) and a fun old golf cart that you can bomb around on.

I drove around with another pottery friend's adult daughter (it was fun to meet her) for a while, and it was hilarious. It's all bumpy and fun to zoom around on the curves in the trail. We didn't go very fast, but it was just silly fun, and I don't get enough of that.

I took my husband for a spin later, and he thought it was pretty fun.

We went through town again on our way home, and I wanted to check Winner's to see if that dress was still there, and it was. So, I decided to get it after all. Maybe it will help me manifest an event worthy of wearing it.

I paid an absolute fraction of the original cost, if this online site is the right one. Less than a quarter of the original price. One of the few times that I have actually been impressed by Winner's promise of good deals on designer clothes (most of the clothes are just nice, not amazing. Maybe because by the time it filters out to us here in the boonies it's kind of the dregs of other stores in Ontario?).

Here's the dress. It looks very much like this, though I don't much resemble the lovely model.

Then we stopped in to visit with our "house help" friends, as it was the wife's birthday. We should have known that too (the husband texted us to see if we could stop in), so I'm glad we were able to do so.

They had another couple there too, and we know them. They're nice people, but MAN the husband is one of those "outdated, isn't it funny to be casually racist/sexist/homophobic". I don't even think he's a horrible person, but he's the kind to make the "Asian eyes" thing that kids used to do before they knew better, or make a weird comment about the "rainbow community". Ingrained outdated casual bigotry.

It was nice to see our friends, the ones who often trade work back and forth. She's a bit older than I thought; how time sneaks up on you.

Then we came home and I fed everyone their smaller meal, and my husband pretty much had to go straight to bed because he's helping with the house crew tomorrow.

One thing I was kind of aware of today, is that my husband really eats a lot of crap. He ate some of the "dainties" people brought to the raku firing, and drank a beer offered to him. Then at our friend's house, he ate more dainties, another beer, and a piece of cake with ice cream.

He had chicken wings for supper with another friend the other day, and likely more beer.

He is a healthy weight, and I guess he thinks he can eat garbage all day long as long as he isn't fat, but it must still have it's risks.

It kind of bugs me that he can just be a human garborator (I know we're at an age now where lots of people decline sugary treats and such, and it feels like they can just dump it onto his plate since he'll still eat it. He's like some kind of food scapegoat.) and not gain weight, and I can't eat anything like that at all because it bothers my blood sugar (very bad low blood sugar attacks) and I had to give up SO MUCH to lose weight.

I am still not really slender at all, I'm still quite beefy, but I'm about as good as I'm ever going to be. I'm sometimes pretty jealous, as I haven't eaten a piece of cake in probably four years. Never mind cake, ice cream, and several dainties in one day.

You know what I ate when I got home? A big bowl of microwaved veggies with two veggie hot dogs, no bun.

He sometimes eats crap on his way home from the climbing gym too.

It makes me less inclined to believe his stories of how healthy he eats when he works elsewhere.

Well, other than my food envy, we had a very nice, very busy day.
