Jun. 6th, 2024 01:33 amToday I am grateful for:
A gorgeous sunny day, though a lot of wind again. Wonderful temperature.
I felt a little better today. For the last week, I've just had this "body tired" feeling. Not sore or stiff, just TIRED. Probably from all the extra work in the garden.
The harder weed digging is done mostly, so that's a relief.
I did plant more, but that's not terribly taxing work. It was very nice to be outside with the wind blowing and hearing all the birds and the poplar leaves rustling (which is a beautiful, unique sound that I missed very much when we lived in Wyoming).
I have a hard time adding new things to my routine, but in the case of working with Dandy, I need to make a new habit of working with him for a while a few days a week in the round pen.
I did that today, after his grazing time with Wonder, which might work.
He did really well. This time he didn't run around hardly at all, and he remembered quite quickly that he gets relief if he turns in to me and just faces me. I actually got some real draw towards me too (following). The goal is not after all to just chase him endlessly in circles, as some people seem to think is the function of a round pen. It's to let them figure out that running away doesn't GO anywhere useful, and that you are not a predator, and you're NOT chasing them, but wanting to "join up" with them.
Then I went to see River, we had a lesson today.
We were able to work in the outdoor arena, and the weather was SO NICE for it!
River was in a good mood, and overall he did well today. We worked on our freestyle pattern, as well as patterns for the upcoming Liberty show in July.
I came home and my Sweetie wasn't home yet, so I decided to work with Wonder in the round pen a bit. I wouldn't mind teaching her some Liberty stuff too.
Wonder is a mare who is VERY SENSITIVE and VERY REACTIVE. I gave up on riding her, as she was a spooky mess.
She is not as bad now, since she is now a senior horse, but you still see it from time to time.
I figured I could at least do Liberty work with her, and it would be a good exercise for us both.
Anyhow, she too, is picking up very quickly on the "joining up" and that being with me is where the relief happens.
We watched the last episode of "Boardwalk Empire", and it was a fairly fitting ending. NOW what to watch?
