Jun. 21st, 2024 10:38 pmToday I am grateful for:
Lovely weather.
My Sweetie drove to visit a buddy of his, and they are going to ride bikes in an MS charity race this weekend.
He worked a part day, came home to get his things, and got there in good time.
I did my normal chores and such before going to see River.
River was okay, his breathing was a bit labored with it being warmer.
He did really well on some things, and oddly misinterpreted some of the other things we were working on, so I guess we'll see if we can fix that.
He behaved well, though, and I could tell that he was giving me good effort.
I came home and let everyone out into their pastures for a while, fantastic summer evening temperature.
I pulled grass and weeds in the garden while they were out.
I spent some time just scratching and snuggling with the ponies, who were very affectionate tonight. Possibly in part because there are mosquitoes now, and they were itchy.
They are very adorable creatures.
I had a quick phone call with my Sweetie before he headed to bed at his friend's place. They have to get up early.
Kenya is on the Eastern coast of Africa, with a lot of coastline along the Indian Ocean.
Kenya was populated by hunter-gatherers (like the Hazda people who still live there), and were also populated by the Bantu people when they expanded into many areas of Africa.
"European contact began in 1500 AD with the Portuguese Empire, and effective colonisation of Kenya began in the 19th century during the European exploration of the interior. Modern-day Kenya emerged from a protectorate established by the British Empire in 1895 and the subsequent Kenya Colony, which began in 1920. Numerous disputes between the UK and the colony led to the Mau Mau revolution, which began in 1952, and the declaration of independence in 1963. After independence, Kenya remained a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The current constitution was adopted in 2010 and replaced the 1963 independence constitution.
Kenya is a presidential representative democratic republic, in which elected officials represent the people and the president is the head of state and government."
The human rights situation is not great, with extrajudiciary killings, homosexuality being a crime, people being over taxed and little support for those suffering food shortages.

The landscape of Kenya varies greatly, from the coast to the mountains to the dry areas. There are thick forests, grasslands, and arable farm land.
One very cool thing, is that there is a great migration annually of wildebeests and zebras from the Serengeti region of Tanzania.
There is a fair amount of good land for agriculture, and coffee and tea are two major exports. Kenya is starting to develop its communications, has some industry, and is looking to increase its tourism sector.
It is not a "least developed country", but is not super wealthy. A lot of people there live on less than $1.25 a day, and depending heavily on subsistence farming.
