Today I am grateful for:

Good weather for the day at the horse barn, though getting pretty hot.

It's all a bit of a blur, but my husband's friend came today to visit with my husband and help with cleaning out the old hay in the barn in preparation for new hay bales.

From what he related later, first they went to the dump to get everything off of the trailer we will need, then they burned some of the old hay raked up from the barn floor, there is other stuff we'll have to burn another day, and they did go for a bike ride together.

I got to the barn around noon-ish again, and watched everyone's clinics (not really any different from a lesson, I guess. Not sure why it was called something other than a lesson).

I brought River into the barn well ahead of our ride time so he could cool off, and as a result his breathing was pretty good for our session.

Our session was pretty short, and only so much we could really address in half an hour, but once again the focus of everything was on FORWARD and HAVING ENERGY.

Well, okay. Kind of like a lot of the lessons I have had with R.

One tiny thing that might be our next step, is doing a tiny bit of "how to collect at liberty" while being on the ground. That has some promise.

Overall, a busy day, not really very dramatic improvement for us in our short lesson, unlike others who seemed to make great strides, but in part I suppose because they got multiple longer lessons.

I wasn't ready to commit to the longer lessons when all of this began a few months ago, as I wasn't too sure I wanted to spend that kind of money without having a sense of this trainer's skill. I suppose if he comes back next year I might be ready to commit more time and $ to this.

Anyhow, it was still fun to watch everyone, and after we had a wrap up supper, even though tomorrow is the show, because some people who had sessions weren't going to be in the show, I guess?

Then my Sweetie (who missed my session by only a few minutes, sigh) and I hung around to watch R and K's daughter L demonstrate her archery skills (which she does mounted), and I tried a few shots from the ground, as did Patrick the trainer, since he's been staying with R's family.

We came home and let everyone out into their pastures for a while, I tried to organize what I need for tomorrow, made contact with our bale guy about getting bales tomorrow, and that's about it.

I have to get up crazy early (for me) for the show tomorrow, and I hope it isn't too awful.
