Jul. 15th, 2024 03:00 amToday I am grateful for:
Warm, but more moderate. It rained a bit last night which cleaned the air.
Good sleep. One thing about my Sweetie being away, is that I don't wake up when he gets up for work. Normally, I get to bed in the wee hours, but I kind of can't sleep if he's getting up in the early morning for work, and I stay "half awake" the whole time he's getting ready and I say goodbye to him.
When he isn't home, I go to bed around the same time, but it's a much sounder sleep.
He got to the job site today, but he's a bit baffled by the fact that there was no one from this facility meeting the group of people from Canada (he's not alone, he's with a group that will all likely be working on the facility that will be built in Quebec).
They arrived at a big airport in Stockholm, transferred to a tiny little plane that took them to the airport near the facility. They got off at a pretty small airport, but there was no representative meeting them. They were kind of stranded there, since there was no bus service on Sunday to the nearby town, the car rental was closed too. They ended up taking a cab into town first so they could eat, and then took a cab out to the facility.
It's not clear to me if anyone was even designated to showing them where they were going to sleep.
Then he says they are sleeping in a man camp. If you don't know what that is, it's basically a temporary place created to house a lot of people in remote areas, and it's trailers with very basic rooms in them.
That's not entirely unexpected, but the whole thing has felt to my husband like no one at this facility was really that interested in having them come look at it, and they put no effort into making sure they had a way out there, or got fed, or ANYTHING.
He's really wondering what the rest of the trip will be like. I hope they feed him.
Then he had to get some rest, as his trip there took about an entire 24 hours.
He said the group had six hours in Stockholm before they got the last flight on the small plane, and they looked around a little bit, but a lot of things were closed.
I felt kind of restless, and not sure where to start with my day, but I did do the dishes.
Then I realized that I needed to clean out the last of the old hay off the barn floor before the new hay gets delivered tomorrow, so that took care of how to spend my time.
I got a LOT of hay out of there, even though my Sweetie had already cleaned a lot out last week. I piled it up outside, and hopefully I can burn it.
Then I went to see River.
I had to fight the urge to have a lazy day with him, as we didn't have any pressing "show" goals or anything. I still need to work on keeping him energetic, or as energetic as it can be with him, anyhow (he's not very energetic).
We did okay. Really, what I want with him is just for him to look interested in working with me, it doesn't have to be "zippy" or anything, just not dragging himself around like he's on his last legs.
He was pretty focused and I did ride outside with just the neck rope, and felt like he was listening.
It turned out to be a lovely evening to ride out there.
I came home really didn't know what to do. There is something going on with the computer; the sound is gone. I had hoped to watch some movies this week while my husband was gone. Ones that he wouldn't like that much, as this is kind of when I get to watch "my" movies.
It's also not much fun to do my normal thing of watching some YouTube videos in the evening without any sound.
Yes, I did spend some time checking to make sure I didn't have the speakers muted, or that they were connected, etc, and no dice. Sigh.
Going to be kind of a tough week without evening entertainment.

Date: 2024-07-16 01:32 am (UTC)I sure hope things get sorted out for your husband over there. That's nuts they haven't planned things (not to mention a bit rude).
mostly so glad you got some good sleep! I really think that is one of the lost "wonders of the world." lol

Date: 2024-07-16 04:33 am (UTC)I'll live, but it's annoying.
I'm sure it's literally some secret button I pushed by accident, and my husband will have it figured out in three seconds. sigh.
I talked to him today at around 3pm my time, and he said it was late evening there (so weird) so he could already tell me how his first day went.
They did seem to have plans for their time there, in spite of not bothering to have anyone pick them up at the airport or make sure they had food.
He said the meeting was in a tiny conference room in a trailer that was so small that it felt like they were all jammed into a bathroom together. He said no one could walk around anyone seated at the table.
That was his entire day, sitting in that room. They went over some of the things they learned about the building process of their lithium battery facility, things to be aware of, things to learn from their mistakes, things that worked well.
All useful stuff to be sure.
I'm really glad I talked him into taking two days to go to Stockholm, because otherwise it doesn't sound like he would get to see anything of interest in Sweden at all. Just the inside of that trailer and his room at night.

Date: 2024-07-17 10:45 am (UTC)So frustrating about the sound! I really wish I could help. Hopefully you'll find something else fun that is also rewarding to do or relaxing or entertaining. Or accidentally find whatever the magic secret button is that turns the volume back.

Date: 2024-07-17 08:47 pm (UTC)The sound is frustrating, but I'll live. I've been watching some things with captions (not as fun, but whatever) and I found a way to use my phone and my Bluetooth speaker (I use it mostly to play music when I'm working with River) to play podcasts and music.
After talking to my husband, he's thinking it might be something like a software issue.

Date: 2024-07-18 08:49 pm (UTC)I use captions most of the time when watching a show or movie even when I do have sound, because half the time the characters have accents, or they whisper or mutter, or there are explosions in the background, and you have no idea what they are saying.
