Today I am grateful for:

Nice weather today. Not too hot.

I went to town for groceries. I WANTED to also get to the county office to ask about what permits are required for a car port, but the office closed at 4:30, and I didn't make it. Sigh.

I did pick up more of Jones's special food from the vet, so that's good.

I did shop at Winner's and found a few things, among them are men's long socks. I have a very hard time finding tall socks for women because there are very few places in town to even buy proper socks at all. I wear "boot socks" a lot.

Then I got groceries, and made a good-sized haul of food. I tried to cheer up the check out clerk who looked like work was the last place on Earth she wanted to be. I can't blame her.

I came home and hauled everything in and put it away (no small task).

Then I let everyone out into their pastures, and picked some of the ripe raspberries.

About this time my Sweetie arrived home from work.

After returning everyone to their corrals, we watched an episode of "Justified" where Rayon makes more questionable personal choices.

Oh, ripe raspberries. :-)

They are not a "nice" thing to grow, as the grass gets really thick in the patch, and it's hard to keep cleaning it out (I truly do not know how anyone keeps a nice raspberry patch). Mulching only does so much.

That said, we get a good harvest, usually, and it's mind boggling to think of what that would cost if we bought raspberries at the store. You usually only see them in tiny flats, and I can imagine that they are not easy to harvest or ship commercially because they likely have to be hand picked and cleaned, whereas other berries lend themselves to mechanical harvesting.

When I was a kid, my cousins had a 10'x20' or so brambly raspberry patch. It wasn't much to look at, but the previous owners started it and they kept it up for a while. I did like picking the berries. Lois made jam, but I much preferred fresh berries on ice cream.

Just eating the fresh berries is such a treat. I eat them with yogurt, or on their own.
