Today I am grateful for:

Warm but not unbearably hot weather.

No need to rush into the fray.

I talked with my Mom for a while, and she sounded very alert and cheerful.

Getting some steps out of the way for paperwork with the county about building a permanent car port. What utter garbage.

My Sweetie got home right after work today, and worked on the software issue that affected our speakers, and it seems that he's got that working again.

I went to see River, and the Sunday rider was there today getting a vet to do a thorough examination of her horse. Her horse has a lot of issues with sugars, causing her to have chronic hoof issues that are not quite but almost laminitic episodes. Her horse also has problems maintaining her weight, and so on. It's all related.

They are looking for root causes, like maybe Cushing's, and discussing more ways to help her. I know the Sunday rider already does so much for that horse to try to keep her healthy and sound, like soaking her hay to reduce sugars, being very careful about all feed, and really doing a lot of hoof maintenance.

River was okay. Hot and lazy, but he did try for me. We worked on yields, nice circles, and improving his Spanish Walk.

I came home and put in some time with Dandy and Wonder, and they did well enough overall.

We watched an episode of "Justified" together.

Zimbabwe is a land locked African country, nestled between the Limpopo and the Zambezi River. Most of its roughly 15 million inhabitants are of the Shona tribe (descendants of Bantu).

"Beginning in the 9th century, during its late Iron Age, the Bantu people (who would become the ethnic Shona) built the city-state of Great Zimbabwe; the city-state became one of the major African trade centres by the 11th century but was abandoned by the mid 15th century.[16] From there, the Kingdom of Zimbabwe was established, followed by the Rozvi and Mutapa empires. The British South Africa Company of Cecil Rhodes demarcated the Rhodesia region in 1890 when they conquered Mashonaland and later in 1893 Matabeleland after the First Matabele War. Company rule ended in 1923 with the establishment of Southern Rhodesia as a self-governing British colony. In 1965, the white minority government unilaterally declared independence as Rhodesia. The state endured international isolation and a 15-year guerrilla war with black nationalist forces; this culminated in a peace agreement that established de jure sovereignty as Zimbabwe in April 1980."

The name Rhodesia comes from the name of Cecil Rhodes, a mining magnate, who came to exploit the region.

From 1980 to 2017, the nation of Zimbabwe has been led (perhaps unwillingly) by Robert Mugabe, whose tenure was authoritarian and committed many, many, human rights violations. The economy suffered greatly. " In 2017, in the wake of over a year of protests against his government as well as Zimbabwe's rapidly declining economy, a coup d'état resulted in Mugabe's resignation. Emmerson Mnangagwa has since served as Zimbabwe's president."

Things did not go well from a human rights point of view during Covid under the new President, so it's not looking like the change helped much in that area. Woman are still treated badly.

" Most of the country is elevated, consisting of a central plateau (high veld) stretching from the southwest northwards with altitudes between 1,000 and 1,600 m. The country's extreme east is mountainous, this area being known as the Eastern Highlands, with Mount Nyangani as the highest point at 2,592 m.[116]"

Lots of tourists come to see these beautiful areas.

Zimbabwe has destroyed a lot of it's forests, and the wildlife has suffered as well. "The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force released a report in June 2007, estimating that 60% of Zimbabwe's wildlife had died since 2000 as a result of poaching and deforestation."

Most of the economy relies on mining/minerals, agriculture, and tourism.
