Aug. 4th, 2024 11:32 pmToday I am grateful for:
Very livable temperatures, around 23 C.
I got better sleep last night, so that helps.
We were invited by our friends to come pick Nanking cherries (they're small, tart ones), since there were far more than they could use.
So, we went over and picked about a gallon or so of very nice little cherries, and will likely make jam out of them.
It was nice to visit with our friends. They're the ones that we swap jobs with each other, and the woman who can get talking and "not let go". She did kind of do that a bit today, about her mother in law (pretty much all she talks about is how much she dislikes her mother in law), but we just picked cherries and let her talk.
Then we sat for a while on their deck, and that was nice. They have some humming bird feeders set up, and pretty little humming birds were flitting around us.
Then we had to get going to the riding barn, so we went home and dropped off the cherries and took the truck with the trailer so I could load River again.
River was okay, but you could feel a storm brewing so he was a bit on edge. Not bad, but I was aware of it. We loaded him again, practiced having him stand quietly inside and allowing me to back up to move the barrier over without trying to get out of the trailer. He did well, though at one point he was a bit "looky" because there were some deer moving around outside. One of the other horses was worried about the deer for some reason, so he was a bit concerned, but he hung in there and didn't try to leave the trailer.
Then I rode him in the outdoor arena, and worked a bit on another pattern. He did okay, and we're improving that hindquarter yield. Then I worked in the indoor for a few minutes on that collected trot at liberty, and I'm never sure if we get that or not.
Then we came home and let everyone out for a while, and before the storm broke, brought them back in.
We watched "Civil War", and that was a very good movie, but also pretty brutal.
The storm so far hasn't really yielded rain, just thunder and lightening.
My husband did some laundry and preparation for going to Toronto next week for work. This is to go through safety stuff, since the job in Quebec that he's likely going to soon wants everyone up to date on specific safety training of their own choosing.
I will have to take Roxy to the vet about this leg, and it will likely mean surgery. Sigh.
