Aug. 19th, 2024 01:11 amToday I am grateful for:
Nice temperatures, but kind of dusty. I think farmers are starting to cut some of the crops or something.
Having a fairly relaxed start to the day.
I got the cat litter changed (whew!), then let everyone out to their pastures. While they grazed for an hour or so, I mowed. I haven't mowed for a while, and I keep forgetting that it needs to be done.
Then I got in a session with Dandy and Wonder, and they did great today, so I was able to keep it short and sweet. Maybe it makes a big difference that I worked them AFTER letting them graze, rather than before. Dandy wasn't trying to snatch grass the whole time today, and was more focused over all.
My Sweetie got going on the tiling again. He started with the tile on the floor, and got that done today.
It's a little funny, and a little "sigh" that in our planning session last week where we talked about the tiling, he was SO CONFIDENT that he could get THE WHOLE thing done in a few hours. NO PROBLEM. So, he spent a few hours yesterday working on prep, and most of today finishing that prep and getting just the tiles on the floor done, so it's looking like it will be a fair amount of work yet to do all the tiles that have to go on the walls. I'm okay with that, as long as he's chipping away at it.
What he got done on the floor looks really good, so YAY!
I went to see River while he stayed home and worked on the tile. I had hoped he could come to the barn, since then we could take the trailer (I am not yet confident enough to take it on my own as there is fancy backing up that you have to do to get it into the right place in R's yard).
BUT, when I got to the barn, R had her trailer still hooked up (a trailer must be properly hooked to a truck to load a horse or the trailer could tip forward).
I asked River to load himself, and he did. He moved over nicely to the correct spot so I could close the divider, and he waited nicely for me when I opened the divider again, and backed himself out when I gave him the cue. I was happy with that, so one good effort is enough.
His energy was lower today, probably because of the dust in the air, so I kept the work at a good point where we were doing something but he wasn't over exerting himself. Yields, nice ridden circles, working on the "away" liberty circle and the "around" liberty circle. I almost got him to lie down from the deep bow (feeling Ratty's scrutiny), so close! We'll keep working on it.
I came home and made supper, and my Sweetie was still finishing up with the tiling.
We watched an episode of "Justified".
