Saturday, August 24
Aug. 25th, 2024 02:08 amToday I am grateful for:
A lazy start to the day, but we got a lot done once we were up and moving.
Normally Saturday is our fun day, but I sadly resigned myself to the reality that we have to use that day for getting ahead on the house.
My husband got up a lot earlier than I did, and went to help our "house partnership" friends with taking down a couple of old trees. These trees were in our friend's mom's yard. The Mom is in a care home, and they are trying to empty the very hoarded house (It has taken them almost two years, and it's still not empty) and clear the yard so they can sell it.
I personally feel like they are trying too hard to sell things and make back money, and to be very responsible about everything they take out of it. They HAVE also taken several huge dump truck loads to the landfill as well, but I think I would have hit a wall a long time ago where everything that wasn't garbage, (unless it was made of gold or something) would just be set out at the curb for people to take for free, or sent en masse to a thrift store or something.
I mean, after years of first emptying one of his parent's houses, then a second one, do you really care if you get money for a salt and pepper shaker collection? DO YOU?
Do you really need to get money for sixteen boxes of old National Geographics, or a mountain of old cook books?
It's costing them more in terms of their life essence/time trying to deal with it like this. I would list it for free on Market place and be done with it.
Anyhow, my husband helped cut down some trees but they couldn't take them to the local burn pit because it was FULL and since there's a fire ban they can't burn. Sigh. So I guess the trailer full of old trees will have to just sit at our friend's place for a while.
I decided to get back to painting in the mud room, since I never finished it. I put a second coat on some walls, and the first coat on others, and I'll try to finish it soon instead of pretending it will paint itself.
I had tiny touch ups to do in the small entryway porch, so I got those done.
My Sweetie did more work on the tiling, and made a bit of progress, but it's going a LOT SLOWER than his original, overly confident estimate. Hopefully he can get more done tomorrow.
We did let everyone out into their pastures for a while.
That's about all we did today, but it needed doing.
Then we watched "The Courier" which is based on real events, and is a very good movie.
