Aug. 29th, 2024 01:03 amToday I am grateful for:
Kind of drizzly today. I hope it amounts to some useful moisture. I like how fresh the air is when it's like this.
It's somewhat awful to think that we are probably only a few weeks away from our first autumn frost. I am never ready for the end of summer.
My husband keeps looking for the wire screen for the catio in a particular width, and I don't think he's finding it. I have to say, I am quite frustrated that for two whole years, the catio we bought with intentions to repair and use is still sitting by our back door, just looking like garbage instead of a useful thing. He's going to have to just use what's available, instead of some magical perfect width that would save him some time. He's actually spent a lot of time now looking for a four foot wide roll, when all that seems to be available is three feet wide.
We still have a land line, believe it or not, and recently it has not been working. I've been dreading making the call to get it serviced, because that is easily an hour of bullshit.
Well, it totally was. I had to hold forever, then answer a thousand questions only to be told that they needed to speak to my husband, because it's "his" account, even though he's TRIED to have me added to it several times. They refuse to let me do anything, make inquiries, get service, anything. It's enfuriating.
So, they are going to call my husband, because I told them he DOES NOT HAVE TIME to call their stupid service number and wait for an hour on hold.
So that was awful. Pretty much how I expected it to be.
Then I went to see River, and he was all happy and covered in mud. His breathing is usually good in this kind of weather.
I did notice the last couple of days that he seems a little desperate about trying to eat grass as I take him to the barn, and to eat the hay that is in the stalls in the barn. The horses have really chewed down the grass in their pasture, and I think it LOOKS like there's still something to eat in there, but I've walked around and what looks like food is just weeds that are likely unpalatable.
I did ask R if they are getting any hay, and she said no. I mentioned that River seems a little desperate to grab grass, and was really not wanting to leave the hay in the stall, and she poo-poo ed it a little saying "oh, he's not skinny or anything".
Well, for a horse to look skinny they have to be hungry for a long time, and I'm paying a lot of money to board him where he shouldn't be short on food. Not ever.
I do think she "heard" me though, and she knows me well enough to know that I'm going to stand up for my horse if I think it's required.
They will likely get moved to their other pasture soon.
We had a good lesson. We worked on the stationary circles (I think of them as "around") on the ground, and trying to get collection (I feel like I've been chasing the dream on this for the whole time I've had River) with just the neck rope, and we did get a bit of it here and there.
My Sweetie met me for putting away, and then we followed each other home.
I let everyone out for a while, and we watched more "Justified".
