Sep. 3rd, 2024 01:27 amToday I am grateful for:
Getting some solid sleep last night.
Planning for fun today, since it is the long weekend, and there are not many more days of gorgeous weather ahead of us as winter looms.
We decided to go to the city today and just ride our bikes all over the place. We often go to the city and I look out the window at all the nice bike paths and parks and fun nooks and yearn to explore, so today we did.
We mostly stayed to bike paths, and areas with marked bike lanes. I haven't had much experience biking in cities, so I was a little worried in places, but most of these areas are quite separated from traffic.
We biked in some lovely old residential areas, along the river, across the river on the cool pedestrian/cyclist bridge that we walked across a few weeks ago (the whole "river sand bar community" was out today in the hot weather), and around the parliament grounds where we sat for a while by the fountains/splash pool area.
All told my husband says according to our phone, we only biked somewhere between 15 to 20 km, but to me it felt like a lot more than that, maybe because there is just so much to see?
We certainly weren't breaking any speed records, and I enjoyed the fact that the natural slope of a lot of the trails allowed for a great deal of coasting.
I had a blast. I used to love riding my bike when I lived in a small city. I like riding on "park trails" too, but paved paths in the city still tend to travel through undeveloped areas along rivers where there are trees and such. I like biking through elegant old neighborhoods with cool old houses and nice yards.
Then we went to the funky downtown area (bikes go on a secure rack on the back), I changed in the car without too much difficulty, and we ate at one of our usual spots, popped into a book store, and then my Sweetie STILL WANTED TO GO TO THE CLIMBING GYM.
We made a deal that if he kept it to one hour, I could hang out in a drug store for a while. That ended up feeling a bit tedious, and I didn't like the feeling of being stuck there, but I did it for my Sweetie.
Sigh.
We came home, and that was about it for the day.

Date: 2024-09-04 07:18 am (UTC)I have the need to break up my routine sometimes, as I can feel like I am stuck in the same day every day, or the same week, if we don't do things from time to time that are outside of our normal activities.
Though it's fun doing our normal "routine" of going to the art gallery and the book store and then eating at one of our usual restaurants, I would like to expand our options.
We haven't done a ride like this before in the city, but maybe we can do them from time to time. It wasn't too hard to make it happen.

Date: 2024-09-05 07:18 am (UTC)I would have been fine waiting if they had some chairs by the entrance or somewhere socially acceptable to wait. I was finished looking around, and the employees were starting to look at me suspiciously, but there was nothing to do but look at the same things I had already been looking at. Nowhere to go have a coffee nearby either.

Date: 2024-09-05 09:30 pm (UTC)I generally see people working there who can't tell you much about them. I don't know how much training they get.
They should know at least SOMETHING about the perfumes, though that can be a university degree, I'm sure.
