Sep. 11th, 2024 01:23 amToday I am grateful for:
Sunny and more moderate temperatures. Still no rain.
Otherwise a very nice day for sunshine and the perfect fall temperatures. The leaves are starting to change.
I did a few small things like got a different container for my watercolor tubes (I emptied a plastic tub by getting rid of some craft stamps I didn't use, so I had one available for other purposes). Now they're not all jammed into one that was getting over full.
I let everyone out into their pastures for a while, and went to the garden and picked all the cucumbers and squash and brought them all in because last night's frost did touch the plants. It it were a harder frost those veggies would be ruined. The root ones are fine for a while yet.
Then I spent some time picking manure from Wonder's usual pen. She's on very limited grass, so lives most of the time in a smaller pen. From time to time I have to do something with all the accumulated manure. Today I just loaded it onto the calf sled (just a plastic sled, really) and dumped it in the bigger pasture. I took out three big sled loads.
Then I went to see River, and chatted with R a while. She had some juicy gossip about one of the other riders. That woman is a very glamorous woman who is going through a divorce from her very wealthy partner, and ALREADY has found another apparently very wealthy new boyfriend, and she is moving to live with him, less than four months after I heard of her divorce.
River was initially very pokey, and with some work we got a better effort, but overall he felt kind of detached from the whole session, and I don't know why. It was cooler today so it shouldn't have been that he was too hot. He did well today with the umbrella and most of the obstacle course, but was really not showing any energy or focus for our yields. He did give his head nicely today when I used the bitless bridle.
He did better with going forward when I moved from the outdoor arena to the indoor arena, and I wonder if the footing in the outdoor is getting too hard being so dry. He seemed more willing to move out on the soft sand indoors.
Then I came home and chatted with my Sweetie. His first day with his folks was nice. They went to the zoo and then met his sister at a pub type place where they played some cribbage together.
