Sep. 15th, 2024 01:23 amToday I am grateful for:
Cooler weather, and rain in the evening. I'm not sure how much we got, but this time it felt like an actual rain, not just a few drops.
A very lazy start to the day, and my Sweetie needs to be lazy since he drove all day yesterday to get home. It's nice just to be together today.
I wasn't sure what to do today. This is my birthday weekend, but we didn't plan ahead for anything specific since I wasn't sure if my Sweetie would feel up to a lot of celebration.
It was a late start on things, but we did go for a nice walk down at the park down the road, and somehow just spending an hour or so with my Sweetie walking together in the early stages of the leaves turning was a pretty nice treat.
There wasn't anything "going on" that we were interested in, but we both were okay with going to the new "Beetlejuice" movie.
We went after our walk, and it was fun. I don't know if it's just that our bar is so high for movies now, or what, but there was nothing "new" in this movie, just a lot of references and throwbacks to the original movie, and it even seemed like the actors were just being characters we've already seen. The girl in this movie (Jenna Ortega) more or less just showed up as her "Wednesday" character, and Catherine O'Hara showed up as her "Moira Rose" character from "Schitt's Creek" and Monica Bellucci showed up as herself and every character she's ever been.
So, it was a FUN movie, but not novel or even that engaging.
There was also a group of people that had seats "inside" of ours, who were VERY disruptive. They not only showed up after the movie started, already all four of them had their phones lit to see their way, but through the entire show they kept turning on their phones, loudly rustled food packages, and about three times during the movie two or three of them got up to push past us, then a few minutes later came back. I was ready to just stand up and yell at them to "JUST BE QUIET AND SIT DOWN, DAMMIT!!!".
When we got out of the theater, it was POURING rain, and my Sweetie (who had taken in his rain jacket) was very gallant and let me wait while he got the car.
I wanted a birthday bottle of wine, even though I really don't drink much, so we went to the liquor store and picked up something.
We also got some groceries. It really bothered me that the young checkout clerk's name was "Logen", because I KNEW that his parents likely meant "LOGAN" but probably can't spell to save their lives. If you actually pronounced that name according to the rules of the English language, that "G" is soft, so he would be "low-jen".
We came home and ate and watched a fun comedian on YouTube (Romesh Raganathan) and drank the wine. It wasn't the rich, sweet red I had hoped for, but a grape-juice sweet fizzy concoction not unlike grape soda. I'm not going to lie, it was tasty, but I don't drink a lot of wine and I had hoped for something a little more complex.
Overall, today was a nice "birthday weekend" day, and I'm grateful my husband was home to be here with me and willing to do fun things together.

I'm going to try to catch up on my inbox a little bit.... But wanted to stop by and I'm glad I got to read your entry. :)

Date: 2024-09-16 08:32 am (UTC)The wine we got was tasty, and I like it, but BOY was it sweet and fizzy! I think I will actually remember that, as it was so extreme.
I always go into the liquor store and just stand there, with no idea what I will like. I vaguely remember other wines that were okay, but I wanted to try something new. There's not much point in even trying to research whether or not wine is any good, because they flood the internet with nothing but positive, glowing reviews about their own wine. It's usually not descriptive enough to be useful, other than "sweet with fruit notes" or "oaky, etc". I don't know enough about wine to decipher it all.
I did my best not to let those rude folks ruin our night out, but WHO DOES THAT? I mean, if you know you're the kind of people to get up three times during a movie, go sit somewhere else where you can be on the outside of the aisle! Or, be a proper parent and tell your kids to behave themselves.
