Oct. 22nd, 2024 01:40 amToday I am grateful for:
That I made myself spend some time outside today, though it was dark grey all day, and just below freezing.
I got up late enough today (though it is just my current normal sleep pattern) that I already knew if I went to pottery I would feel rushed and it would be unsatisfying, so I chose not to go.
I did speak to D at pottery, since I know she wonders if I'm coming or not, to let her know. We talked for a while about how hard it would be to use a kiln, since I keep trying to set up a full studio at home, and she says that it really wasn't difficult to use at all, and that gives me some hope.
So, since I didn't get groceries, my Sweetie says he can pick up a few things tomorrow. I hate doing this, because he will only get the absolute bare bones, we won't have enough fresh vegetables for him to start the next week the way he shops, we'll likely end up having to shop again this week, and I'll then be out of step for next Monday. Sigh.
He means well though, and it's kindness that motivates him.
It was nice to just be home, since I am mentally just exhausted from yesterday.
I spent some time outside just cleaning accumulated manure out of the goat/pony pen and taking it to the compost pile. I took two full wheel barrow loads, and that's the tip of the iceburg.
I used a shovel that my husband fixed the other day when we were getting so much done. He took a flat shovel that had the end bent up and cut a new good edge, and put a new handle on it. It's somehow absolutely perfect for scraping up dried horse manure. He was delighted when I told him how well it turned out.
Then I put Wonder and Dandy together out in the large horse pasture, and let the other animals out into theirs (Dandy lives with the other pony and the goats, but I try to have him spend time with Wonder a few times a week since she doesn't have a permanent friend).
Dandy and Wonder ran around like idiots for a while, which is good for them as long as they don't get hurt on something. It looked like fun.
Then I wondered if I could do any Liberty work with them in that large, open space. Usually I work with them in the round pen; a small space. With some coaxing, I managed to get them each, one at a time, to walk with me around the pasture at Liberty, which is a pretty cool thing to be able to do with them.
They did leave several times, and each time I just kept going over and drawing them back. After a while they decided it was easier to just stay with me than to keep running away only to be asked to come with me again, and it's not like I was being scary or very demanding, so it's the easier decision after a while.
Roxy was outside with me, and seems to be doing okay with her hind legs. No, they're not perfect, but they actually seem to be stronger since we treated the pancreatitis, and I wonder how much of the leg pain was from that inflammation.
My Sweetie did go to the climbing gym after work, and apparently had a good night. When he got home we ate and watched some "Justified", and I'm really enjoying this season.
