Oct. 24th, 2024 11:57 pmToday I am grateful for:
Just a quiet day at home.
I got some good sleep, and many sweet kitty snuggles.
I spent some time outside, and took two more big wheel barrows full of pony manure to the compost pile.
Around the time my Sweetie got home, I let everyone out into their larger pastures, and chose to work with Wonder and Dandy in the large horse pasture.
After "losing" Wonder several times in working with her at Liberty, I chose to work with her close to her designated safe spot, which for whatever reason is the gate going back to her dry pen. Whenever I try to take her too far from there, she gets worried and goes running back, so for now I will work with her below her threshold.
By doing this, I was actually able to get both her and Dandy to stay with me at Liberty to walk in a fairly large loop that seemed to be okay for Wonder. That's pretty cool, to be able to get them both to stay with me in a big pasture this way.
While I was doing this, my husband was in the basement trying to finish the necessary grouting on the tile where the wood stove will be installed soon.
Part of me is a little agog at how much it's going to cost, most of that cost is the chimney itself, though we decided to treat ourselves with a very beautiful wood stove. It's something we've both wanted in this house, and though the wood stove itself is pricey, it seems like it barely factors into the overall cost because of how much the chimney and installation will cost. So, we might as well get the fancy wood stove, instead of paying maybe ten percent less overall and getting a much less handsome one.
I do hope that the features it has (like being able to be set to a particular temperature, and thus you can fill it and let it burn on it's own overnight and use the fuel to best advantage) will make a significant difference on our heating bills, thus offsetting it's cost over several years.
As I've mentioned before, for me it is peace of mind. Having a wood stove might mean being able to wait out a power outage in place, and protect our water lines.
Then we ate and watched an episode of "Justified".
