Today I am grateful for:

Getting some good sleep, and the loving presence of the critters.

I was able to work with Wonder and Dandy again in the pasture for a while, and maybe Dandy is figuring out that he can take off more effectively out in the pasture than the round pen, but he is also very congenial about coming with me again when I catch up to him. I figure I just have to keep at it until all of this is just a habit, to follow me.

I think it's very good for Wonder, mentally, to do something with her like this.

Then I went to the barn. My husband made a long pole for me, called a Garrocha. It is used in South America for moving cattle, and has also evolved into an accessory for riding. I am going to see if I can incorporate this into what I am doing in a fun way.

I tried it today, and right away I can see how using a pole makes you more aware of your body's balance, the weight for shifting for movements, and whether or not your circle is actually a circle.

This is really good horsemanship, and shows how a master might use it in a pattern.

Then I stayed and worked with another horse boarded at the barn who needs some extra exercise. The girl with health challenges didn't come today, but I worked with this other horse while R worked with her horse, and it was just nice. You learn a lot from working with different horses.

Then I came home and we watched more "Scooby Doo".

I got a text from Sister N, who doesn't communicate that easily over the phone because of her hearing. She saw the video I posted of River and I doing our Freestyle, and our obstacle course, and I think it finally dawned on her that I must be taking this a bit more seriously than she expected.

She asked "what do I do with my time", which in some ways is exasperating, because most of the time when I go home and visit with her I do try to talk about what I do with my time, and she doesn't seem all that interested.

I do make posts about River and I doing different things, so it's not much of a mystery that working with him at the barn is a big part of my life.

Same with pottery, I go home and give away a ton of my work to my family and have done so for years. I have also started taking my year's paintings home and showing them to family, though I don't usually give those away.

It's almost like she clicked somewhere in her mind that, hey, maybe what I'm doing with River is pretty darn good these days.

I feel like she's maybe thinking like people do about "overnight success", and I would have to say that my "overnight success" has taken about ten years.
