Nov. 28th, 2024 01:05 amToday I am grateful for:
Decent sleep.
My Sister E texted me to find out when to call (after I had texted her yesterday about how difficult it is to get her to call and to make a time where she could give me her attention).
It was a good conversation. I felt odd to be the one to fill her in on our Sister S's current health situation. Apparently Sister E hasn't talked to her since August, and I'm like....? Why not?
I thought they were closer than that.
Sister S has had a bulging disc that is impinging on her sciatic nerve to the point where she can barely walk. She is hoping to have back surgery soon, but until then she is nearly housebound with pain and the fear of falling if she goes somewhere alone.
I told Sister E it might be really helpful if she reached out to Sister S to see if she will need anyone to stay with her after her surgery (her husband will help, but he might need to keep working instead of taking time off), or even just to talk to her about her life.
I even had to clue Sister E in that Trainwreck can barely walk these days. Her body is so ravaged by her addictions, that even though she's been "clean" for the last two months, her body is very weak and probably permanently damaged in many ways. I don't think Sister E really considered that just because Trainwreck is still alive after her near death experience, that's not the same as "all good again".
I wonder if there's just something missing with Sister E sometimes. Like empathy. She doesn't seem to really "get" other people's issues. She doesn't think to ask. She can't seem to infer what's going on by paying attention to what people are saying or "not" saying.
Anyhow, I worked with Dandy for a few short minutes in his pen, and he did well. I did not work with him in the larger pasture with Wonder.
I did work with Wonder on her own in the big pasture, and after her usual theatrics she stayed with me well and we walked around the pasture together. It's almost hard to get anywhere because she keeps stopping me to get more snuggles.
She is a super affectionate horse.
Then I went to the barn to see River; we had a lesson today.
It was fairly cold today, but I dressed for it and I was fine.
R gave me a good fix for the issue I mentioned the other day, to do with how to set River up for a reverse direction. That's homework for us.
Also a good reminder about keeping my "draw" coming from in front of the girth in our groundwork.
Our ridden work was good too. A good reminder on how to use my pelvis to get the extended trot, not just leg.
R's husband K stuck his head in and we all chatted and joked for a while. R has a tool she uses called "Franklin Balls" for improving pelvic position and awareness in riding, and it's a running joke in those who "know", that R will "use the balls on you" if you don't use your pelvis correctly. It's really just any excuse to yell out "BALLS". You have to find your laughs where you can in this life.
I was really pleased with River's focus and energy today. I know that it means he's feeling good, and that our relationship is good when we have nice days like this.
I came home and started supper. I had hoped to make potato pancakes for my Sweetie but it all got a little out of hand and he got sort of fried mashed potatoes, which is fine if you just put cheese on them.
He went to start the wood stove, and didn't have the flue open, and managed to fill our entire house with smoke. Sigh. It's a learning curve. We had to open a lot of windows to clear it out.
By the time we got through all of that, there wasn't a lot of time for anything besides catching up a bit on each's other's day, and an episode of "what predictable villain in a costume will be caught by those meddling kids today?".
Decent sleep.

Thoughts
Date: 2024-11-28 09:18 am (UTC)Oh yeah. Also, damp wood and some types of wood (like elm) will pour smoke out the front even with a flue open. And if you open it all the way on a windy day, it makes starting a fire a real bitch. But practice helps.
