Today I am grateful for:

Ongoing mild weather.

I got solid sleep last night.

The first ten minutes or so after I got up was kind of nuts. Trainwreck called again just to chat, and she called (not her fault) exactly when I was feeding the cats.

The feeding isn't straightforward. Jones has to get special food, Hans has to be in a cat carrier to eat so he doesn't steal everyone else's food, Sprite's food dish is sort of hidden to protect her from Jones, and Celeste has to go in the sun room.

All of the cats go into "highest possible drama" mode when it's food time, screaming and swarming around your legs and knocking stuff over.

Yes, it's very "extra".

So I was doing okay talking to Trainwreck and trying to feed cats, but then someone is trying to call me while I'm already talking with Trainwreck, and just LETTING IT RING A THOUSAND TIMES.

So I had to ask Trainwreck if I could call her back. The "other caller" was just a robot, so I blocked the number and called her back, and all that happened is the robot called back again, with a different number.

FFS.

Eventually I was able to just have a conversation with her. Sigh.

It is her birthday today, and I feel a little badly that I forgot, given that we talked about it yesterday. I have eight siblings and a thousand nieces/nephews, and I long ago kind of gave up trying to recall all of them. I rely heavily on Facebook reminders.

Anyhow, she is having a small party with her sons.

Then I went outside and did normal chores, and worked with Wonder a bit.

I have to laugh at this crazy horse. She is very silly and unreliable, but an utter sweetheart for snuggles.

I was trying to do Liberty work with her again in the big pasture because I am a sucker for punishment. So we'd walk together for ten feet and she's like "SNUGGLE BREAK". Okay. Snuggle break. Ten more feet...SNUGGLE BREAK!

Well, at least she was happy to stay with me today, even if we didn't "do" much.

Then I went to the riding barn to see River.

Before we got to work R was there, and she had a bag of Christmas garlands and such that she was using to dress up horses for pictures. I had some fun dressing River up.

He did well with our groundwork at Liberty, though a little bit pokey to start.

I did a "first" with him today, which is that I got a stationary Liberty circle with him at a canter! Kind of a cool thing for us to do.

Our ridden work was very good too, though he really isn't remembering our yields under saddle, so I have some work to get that back again.

I stayed to work with a chonky pony named Poppy during the woman with many health issue's lesson. This woman had not been feeling well the last couple of weeks and it was pretty cold, so it's nice that she's back today.

Poppy is a very pokey pony. She makes River look fast. I had a tough time getting her to trot for some lunging, but she finally did it. Very slowly. Almost like she's fake trotting. I don't know how she even does it.

R got very chatty as we were finishing up and standing outside. She does dog grooming in part of the barn that is a special grooming room during the day, and works with horses and does lessons in the evening. She often has clients with morbidly obese dogs, or other issues, and it's tough on her because she wants to try to make life better for these dogs, but how do you educate the clients without losing them?

We talked about all kinds of things, and it's funny that she ONLY got chatty once we're outside in the cold and the dark, when we COULD have been chatty in the nice, warm barn, but whatever. It's nice to have someone to be chatty with.

I came home and my Sweetie started supper. We talked about our day for a while, but it was already late enough that he needed to go to bed.

He made me laugh like a maniac over a possible gag Christmas idea for R. I think it would be funny too.

R uses lots of accessories to help riders, and one of them is called "Franklin Balls" for posture correction. They're kind of embarrassing because you have to sit on them, in order to "feel" your pelvis tilt.

It's a weird ongoing joke in the barn to laugh about "R's balls", and my husband said maybe I could make her a bag for those balls, and tell R it's a "ball sack".
