Dec. 12th, 2024 12:05 amToday I am grateful for:
I did a bunch of house cleaning, in anticipation of my friend D coming tomorrow to paint. Then she texted me to say she isn't coming, as her dog is "not quite right". Okaaayyyy.....
At least things are looking spiffy for ourselves.
In a wild moment of inspiration, I decided to see if I could pull off something funny for R at our lesson today.
This is a video of a well known horseman/performer that R and I are both pretty familiar with. He's cute, he's talented, and his horsemanship is fantastic.

I hope that takes you to his video.
Anyhow, I've been obsessed with this video this week, and R and I have talked about it, and I decided it would be hilarious to do a parody of it to the best of my ability today, before we got really into our lesson.
I knew River would let me do some of this (no, I didn't stand on him, or have him lie down, just more or less I did silly dancing with him, and the dramatic throwing my heavy winter farm coat off to reveal a sequined shirt...that I wore over my thermal base layer.).
So I put on this sequined shirt under my chore coat, and kept my coat zipped up, and I went into the arena and tried to play it cool. I was like "before we get going, can I run this by you? I've been working on something I might use for a freestyle later".
I mounted River, then cued up the song ("Umbrella" by Rhianna) and when the song hit the chorus I flung off my heavy chore coat just like Ben did in his video, and kind of did a bunch of the less technical stuff like dancing around River and swinging his tail, etc.
I'm sure R thought I was NUTS, but then she started laughing and got the joke. Truly, it was hilarious.
THEN she got all serious on me and said I could TOTALLY use elements of this to do a freestyle, including standing on River.
Whoa.
Yet, it seems doable. The bareback pad I use is dense, and is likely good protection for his back, and very grippy for my feet.
I managed to crouch on his back today, and to me that is amazing that I could do that without much working up to it, so standing might work with some practice.
We then did some work with an umbrella that R uses for our obstacles (I did work with River with it this summer, so I figured he would be okay with it). We did some trotting with me swirling it and swinging it around to get him used to it.
So, it won't be AS amazing as Ben Atkinson's version, but maybe we could do something similar?
Anyhow, I think I kind of blew R's mind with my antics, but she went along with it all admirably.
We even did some "normal" work with our Liberty circles.
I saw her daughter L, who did indeed buy a couple of my macrame bracelets for Christmas presents for her friends.
Then I came home, and had to go through the whole story with my Sweetie of what I did with R, and he thought that was pretty funny.
He had wings with a friend after work, so I was cooking for myself. Then we watched some "Scooby Doo".
