Dec. 17th, 2024 11:41 pmToday I am grateful for:
Warm house and warm clothes for doing chores. Baby, it's cold outside!
That I have blankets for Wonder and River and the ponies if they need them, and a warm place in the shop for the goats if they need to come inside.
I got decent sleep last night.
I didn't do much today besides go see River, but that's okay.
River did well with our ground work, but once again was pretty rough at doing side passes under saddle, though I saw some improvement.
My Sweetie showed up partway through my session with River, which is nice.
We came home and he started the wood stove, I made supper, and we managed to watch some more "Scooby Doo" before it was his bedtime.
Weird: an acquaintance posted on Facebook about a CBC article talking about an increase in men getting vasectomies, but there was a thought that maybe it was because it was so difficult for women to get good access to birth control and tubal ligation.
I personally know of a few women who knew they were either done having kids, or never wanted kids, who had a tough time getting a doctor to do a tubal on them, because "you might change your mind" or just this weird aversion to women having that much control over their body.
In the comments below my friend's post, one guy seemed a little clueless and he replied to a few other people's comments "well, why not just get vasectomies? It's cheaper and easier...blah blah.".
I responded with several reasons. A man can lie about having a vasectomy to get a woman to sleep with him. A man might not want to get a vasectomy because he's afraid of pain, or perceived loss of masculinity. A woman isn't going to ask a man to have a vasectomy early in a relationship, but she might already know she doesn't want kids. A woman might want a permanent end to having children because SHE IS DONE having kids, even if her husband wants many more. ETC.
I was a bit heated, but not that heated, and I used no bad words or any character attack.
This guy returned with "you're abusing me" and "go dump your trauma somewhere else".
Then he says "I'm gay, so it's not like women are asking me to sleep with them".
I'm like "WHAATT, you're...gay and weighing in on birth control? Is that a big issue for you?"
And he continues to spill drama all over the place.
REALLY? Dude, you're not being attacked. Women have had to fight for their bodily autonomy all their lives, so yeah I'm going to defend our right to have a tubal ligation if we want one.

Date: 2024-12-18 10:19 am (UTC)I kinda get that he's got an opinion like anyone else, but literally what dog would he even have in that fight?
He was probably trying to just be part of the discussion at first, saying "why not just get your partner to have a vasectomy", and when I talked about why a woman might want the option of a tubal instead, mainly for reasons of autonomy, he jumped all over me saying I was abusive.
You'd think a gay man would understand a person's desire for body autonomy.

If being gay was relevant to the topic of birth control for women, he should have led with it instead of making it a stealth weapon to bring out as a last resort.
I felt like saying I was a lesbian, and I didn't need to worry about birth control either, but that felt a bit much.
