Today I am grateful for:

That it wasn't quite as cold as the forecast said. It's kind of "normal" cold, around -13 C.

I was finally able to get some sleep. I was just about delirious yesterday. It will take a few more good nights of sleep to feel like I've caught up, but that was a good start.

I did normal chores, and put Dandy in with Wonder again while I went to see River.

My Sweetie came with me, which is nice. I just feel better with him there, both for his company and if ever anything should happen there's someone around.

River did REALLY well today. He was very connected with me on the ground doing our Liberty work, following well and having a good pace with things (not slowing down or trying to stop a lot).

I made a point of riding early again tonight, in case people nearby were going to have fire works. None did while I was riding, which is great.

In our ridden work, River seemed a bit stiff in the canter, though he was making a good effort. I did stand on him twice, and made more of an effort to stand up straight, which is an effort of will more than an issue with strength or balance. It's just a bit daunting. River was very good and still for me.

Then I did a bit more Liberty, and got an EXCELLENT stationary canter circle from him. He's getting a lot better at holding the pace without me constantly reminding him, and also our draw connection is getting really good.

I'm also starting to work with him to do the Spanish walk in a circle around me, and we've got some good beginnings. His side pass was a bit better today too, which is great. I'm doing my best to be VERY CLEAR about my cues, and being careful not to give him relief for the incorrect response, to correct him in motion instead of giving him a break unintentionally.

A really good session.

We came home and worked in the basement (after taking Dandy back to his usual pen). We sorted and stacked the floor boards that are left (to be used in the little room upstairs later) and for now they will go to the garage. Other things to go to the garage were put in one spot.

We're getting it ready for our friends to come hopefully on Sunday, and they will help my husband put up the drywall in the basement. That will mean that all the floor space that is currently taken up by the stack of drywall will be opened up, and more space from the floor boards going to the garage.

Then we watched "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning" part one. We did see it in the theater, but I enjoy these movies enough (and generally forget most of it, so it's like new again in six months) to watch them over again.

Happy New Year!
