Jan. 2nd, 2025 01:19 amToday I am grateful for:
That we got through the holiday season and I didn't feel too nostalgic for past holidays, and enjoyed the present without having huge expectations.
I got some good sleep last night too, which makes things seem possible.
I talked with Sister E for a while, and she went skating again, and that sounds like fun. I'm glad she's keeping busy now that they moved to town, and she's finding ways to stay active and meet people.
I did our normal chores, and my Sweetie and I agreed that it made more sense for me to go to the barn, and for him to go to the gym, rather than us trying to do those things together.
River was just distracted most of the time, again thinking about food, which is annoying. I mean, THEY DO GET FED. He's not starving. Yet you can tell that he's got one eye and ear focused on the first signs that K is outside throwing hay.
Our ground work was good (though not very focused). I made kind of a radiating pattern of poles so that he could trot over them in a liberty circle, which is good for his self-carriage and his back.
I worked more on the ground to clean up the side pass, and then followed through with that under saddle. There is some improvement, and some room for improvement.
A decent session.
I got home a little before my Sweetie, and wanted to start the wood stove, and managed to smoke up the house, until we sorted out the issue when he got home.
Then we moved the goats into the garage, since it is supposed to be quite cold later tonight. It wasn't too bad this evening, but it was going to keep dropping overnight and be quite cold tomorrow and tomorrow night. No point in them freezing their butts off first, so I moved them in anticipation of the cold front.
They were already tucked in and lying down in the shed, and we were able to catch them pretty easily to put on the harnesses we bought for them. This is the first time we used these harnesses, before I just sort of made one out of rope, but that wasn't very effective. They worked pretty well, so it wasn't too hard to lead them to the garage.
Then we put an extra blanket on Wonder.
Then Trainwreck called, which is fine, tonight's call wasn't dramatic, but I think she's called pretty much every day this week, sometimes more than once, and I'm kind of worried that this will be seen as permission for her to call ALL THE TIME.
I get that she's often lonely and isolated, and I know that feeling. She's just starting to push the boundaries, texting to see if I can talk late at night (I ignore those texts) and so on.
I suppose if we were in the habit of talking often, but maybe only for ten minutes and it wasn't full of drama that wouldn't be the end of the world.
Then we went inside and ate and watched "Layer Cake", which is a pretty good movie. Many of the actors in it were not well known at the time, and since then have gone on to be pretty successful. When I watched it years and years ago, I don't recall "recognizing" any of the actors, and this time I was going "oh, THAT guy, wow was he young in this movie" over and over again. It's a funny feeling.
