Jan. 9th, 2025 12:01 amToday I am grateful for:
Lovely warm weather, around -1 C.
I was able to wake up feeling a bit more rested, after a few nights of more consistent sleep, and I woke up when I was ready, not because of the cats yelling at me, which is nice.
I did a bit of cleaning, started some laundry, moved the dining room table back to it's normal spot, swept, and vacuumed.
When I did chores, I was able to work with Wonder and Dandy for a short while, and they did well. I haven't worked with them much over the holidays, as it was pretty cold, and we had other things we were doing. I hope to get back into the swing of things with them, now that we're back on our schedule.
I went to see River, and he had a small cut below one of his eyes. Again. He's had two or three cuts like this in the last couple of years. You wonder what the heck he's doing to get them.
I did clean it out after our lesson, and put some cream on it, so hopefully it's clean and heals okay.
Our lesson went well. I haven't had a lesson for a few weeks because of the holidays, so it was kind of a "catching up" lesson. I showed R some of what I've been working on, and she was excited about me standing up on River. I got some homework about refining my cues some more (being good at this is about being excellent and consistent with your cues and timing).
We did look at the side pass, and R said to try engaging his hip first, which isn't how most people would begin a side pass, but with River he needs it. He lags with his hind quarters, which leads to all the misunderstanding and corrections we have to do. Getting his hindquarters to move first seems to fix some of those things.
So, a good lesson.
I got home before my Sweetie and started supper, and it was ready about when he got home. We watched an episode of "The Orville", a semi-comedy that's kind of a take-off of Star Trek. We both liked it, so that's good.
