Jan. 19th, 2025 02:22 amToday I am grateful for:
Okay sleep.
I was a little annoyed that pretty much the moment I opened my eyes my Sweetie right away was saying "if we hurry, we can get to the art gallery!".
While I love the art gallery, what I hate is opening my eyes to "if we hurry...". Last night when we discussed what we were doing today, he didn't show any interest in going to the city.
Well, we CAN'T HURRY, because we have animals, and it's VERY COLD outside today, and there are things like chores that must be done methodically and correctly, and will take longer today because of the cold weather, like the goats needed to walk around in a larger space in the garage for half an hour.
I needed to bathe, and eat.
We drove all the way into the city for an entire half an hour in the art gallery before it closed. We're members, so it's not like we paid admission for only half an hour, but....sigh.
I still enjoyed what we were able to see, and it's an incentive to try to come back before these shows close.
Then I wanted to go to the Winner's near the art gallery, since we were there anyhow, and it was open. I felt weird coming to the city for barely any reason at all.
I did find a nice shirt, and kind of a shirt dress, if that makes sense.
Then we went for supper at one of the few places we eat, and it was nice. It's a great place to eat.
Then we went home, and my Sweetie started up the wood stove.
He was all for just settling in for the night, but I was determined to get the display cabinet from Ikea put together.
He started to put it together a few days ago, and as is his custom, he got distracted and literally just left the glass doors lying in the middle of the dining room floor, making it impossible to do anything in that room at all.
When I asked him, he was a bit defensive, but I put my foot down. I asked "does this not bother YOU, to have these doors just lying here, taking up all this room, all the cardboard and stuff everywhere, and everything in the room all scattered because I can't put anything away?" He just shrugged "no, because it's a work in progress".
Well, WHAT PROGRESS? It's an IKEA cabinet, meaning it can be assembled in an hour or so. Why stop partway and leave it for DAYS?
He could have literally finished it very easily this morning, since he got up several hours before I did, and he did NOTHING with that time, even though the cabinet was sitting right there.
It didn't take long to finish, it wasn't difficult. Then I insisted on actually cleaning up the cardboard, putting things to right. Weird, hey? Imagine wanting to clean up after finishing something.
Then we watched "The Accountant", a very good movie.

Date: 2025-01-19 11:14 pm (UTC)I have some nice items of rock, some egg shapes, some palm stones, some tumbled ones, a few animals carved from rocks, that have been living in boxes for years that I would love to bring out where I can see them.
That's mainly what this cabinet is for.
If there's room, I'm sure other things will go in some of the other shelves, I don't think the rocks will take up all the space.
I would just like to get all the little things I adore out where I can see them, though it IS possible that I should downsize some of the little things I adore. I have a lot of them.
This is the cabinet. I'm happy with the quality, as everything feels sturdy, it wasn't that hard to assemble, and the glass is tempered. The white finish is very even and smooth.

Date: 2025-01-20 05:45 am (UTC)One thing I learned about vitrines is that the back is often mirrored. I wasn't sure if that would look good, but it does (someone gave me one not too long ago). You can do it yourself, if you are so inclined. What are the shelves like?

Date: 2025-01-20 08:09 am (UTC)I very much want my nice things out. Some of them have been in boxes for most of the time I've had them, since there was no appropriate place to display them.

Date: 2025-01-20 08:22 am (UTC)It's time for your stuff to go on display. I even put Lois's gold and sapphire bell charm on display in a glass box on a sunroom table. I like looking at it every day.

Date: 2025-01-21 07:11 am (UTC)I put several things in the new cupboard last night. Some of it was rocks/minerals that have been in various places, some of it was things from the OTHER curio cabinet that were kind of lost in there.
The other cabinet is an old wooden one, and it does not have a lot of glass, and is dark wood. Things in there if they are not white or bright kind of disappear, and it was over full.
Bringing some of those things out into the new cupboard makes me feel like I'm seeing them for the first time.
Next is to clean out the older cabinet and organize it again so that the items in there are bright enough to be seen.
