Feb. 2nd, 2025 12:59 amToday I am grateful for:
Decent sleep, and my Sweetie and I decided to just stay home today. No pressing needs to go anywhere, and it's quite cold.
I did chores, and made sure I had lots of warm layers on. The goats are comfortable in the garage, and everyone else seems fine outside with blankets. I made sure to give them extra hay.
My Sweetie got ambitious and did more work on the kitchen. We talked about it, and since we are fixing the mess where the shelf came from, and the cracks in that wall, then re-painting, I thought we should just fix the rest of the cracks in the kitchen walls and re-paint the whole thing. We need to do it sooner or later, so if we're doing it on one wall, might as well do the whole shebang.
Well, that's how these things go. We start on one thing, somehow do something else in another room, and the projects just keep expanding. So much for finishing the bedroom this winter. That seems to have been utterly forgotten.
Somehow, we are always working on the house, but also never finished. It's honestly maddening.
So, I said that if we're going to paint the kitchen, we needed to wash the walls first with TSP and then rinse them, and THEN fill the cracks. So we did. We moved stuff out of the way, we took down everything on the walls, and we washed the walls, the ceiling, and then the cupboards and the baseboards because it just made sense if you were already washing everything else.
We also washed the cover for the light fixture, moved out the stove to wash the wall behind it, and swept under it and washed the side of the stove against the cupboard that always gets gross.
Somehow I also changed the cat litter and did laundry.
Nuts.
Then we made supper and watched "The Librarian: The Spear of Destiny". There are three movies with Noah Wiley as The Librarian, and they're a lot of fun. I think they were the last movies with Bob Newhart, and Jane Curtin is in them too.

Date: 2025-02-03 02:01 am (UTC)I've been sitting on finishing the sulking room doors and trim for months. The paint is expensive and since it's an archived colour, it has to be ordered specially. At least it's a British paint company. I (personally) won't be buying American goods any time soon, unless there's no way around it.

Date: 2025-02-03 05:52 am (UTC)It's fixing all of those cracks that I've been dreading. I HATE mudding and sanding.
Also, we've...filled the rooms, so any repair means clearing out the room first.
The cracks seemed daunting, and there has just always been bigger fish to fry, so it's been put off. I don't know if we'll move on to fix cracks in other rooms yet, but it is the right time to do it in the kitchen since we're making and fixing a mess to put up that cupboard.

Date: 2025-02-03 08:58 pm (UTC)The denizens wanted a very neutral colour (off-white) in the kitchen, but it does go well with the (green smoke) cabinetry and black countertops.
