Feb. 4th, 2025 11:50 pmToday I am grateful for:
Having a good dog that barks when someone pulls into the yard. I'm pretty sure it was just our helpful neighbor who was hoping to see if we wanted our driveway cleared, but I like that Roxy lets me know.
Trainwreck seemed a bit more optimistic today. She got a new to her couch delivered from a local second hand store, and they took her old one away for her. Sounds like a good deal to me.
It's still pretty cold. Around -24 C. I felt okay doing the chores, with lots of layers.
That's something that gets very exciting for us Canadians, is the first day that it's warm enough that you only need a light jacket. VERY EXCITING when we can wear just a shirt.
You know, there are probably about eight months of the year that you have to wear some kind of jacket here.
I figured if I was okay doing chores, I could likely work with River. So I went.
It was fine. As long as you keep moving, I generally stay warm enough. River seemed okay with it, and probably getting some movement going is good for him too in this kind of cold. Otherwise, the horses stand in one spot and probably get stiff. it's not as cold as it was on Sunday.
He did well today. Our yields on the ground are getting smoother. He's figuring out the Spanish walk at an arm's length so he doesn't hit me. I stood up again for a count of thirty.
I saw R briefly, and we'll decide tomorrow if we're doing a lesson in this cold. I told her I was okay. I suspect that she would rather not do one, she's been very cold this winter. If she doesn't want to do one, I would understand.
I came home and put Dandy back with his Mom (Ursula).
My Sweetie had supper ready (yay!) and we watched the last episode in Season one of "The Orville". We don't have any more right now, not sure if we can get some from our friend. Should be able to.
I'm grateful that Trainwreck had a better day. It's nice that she could get a good sofa. I'm grateful that the animals are doing okay with the cold weather, and that I seem to be able to stay fairly warm too. I'm grateful that the car started okay, and that I managed to stay on the road when some jerk passed me and left me in a mini-white out situation. I'm grateful that my Sweetie is pretty good about cooking and doing dishes and tending the wood stove. I'm grateful for our warm home, especially on days like this.
He did a few very good side pass steps in each direction while being ridden.

Date: 2025-02-06 08:31 am (UTC)Our meals most of the time are super simple. Often just some kind of vegetable, beans or tofu or vegetarian meat substitute, usually quinoa.
Most people would find it deadly monotonous, but I seem okay eating the same sorts of foods a lot. I like not having to think about it too much.
I've never been one to cook a lot of different food. Even when I ate meat I would do something like cook a chicken and eat more or less stir fry with chicken all week until it was gone.

Date: 2025-02-08 07:56 am (UTC)We do eat tofu a lot, and my husband adds a lot of hot spicy stuff to his portions, so I think it would be his kind of thing.
We do sometimes eat chickpea dishes that are a little spicy. He learned to make them from his Indian friend. Sometimes lentil dahl.
We do eat squash too. I love a good spaghetti squash, and OF COURSE we have zucchini for a couple of months after they're ready. They're vegetables, so they are often in the stir fry, or we just microwave them and add stuff once they're cooked.
I like to make straightforward, FAST suppers. If it's going to take more than half an hour total, I'm generally not interested.
I eat for survival more than anything else these days, both in terms of eating healthy food, and food that doesn't take up a lot of my time. To my palate, it tastes good too.
