Today I am grateful for:

My Sweetie helped me by doing outside chores, so that I could get cleaned up to meet friends of his in the city.

The one guy is a former room mate of my husband's about two years ago when he was working away from home. They meet up sometimes for a meal.

The other person is a woman they both worked with before, who now works for another company and might be moving soon, so I'm not sure if this was kind of a "going away" get together?

I had heard a lot about the male room mate, and maybe I heard about the female coworker before, I don't remember.

Anyhow, it was for brunch, and my husband mostly talked with his buddy about work stuff, and the woman and I talked about animals mostly.

It's funny, she grew up in Dubai with wealthy parents, but had grand parents who were not very wealthy that lived in a small village. She spent some time there when visiting them, and said that in general animals in her country are not really treated very well. I understand that, if you think about how most people feel about feral dogs and cats, and how horses and donkeys were traditionally viewed as beasts of burden.

She is a vegetarian too, and I gather it is somewhat because of seeing how animals are treated in rural areas of her country.

She was very interested in the Liberty work that River and I do together, and in our animals in general. Or, at least she is just a good listener.

She came to Canada, in spite of having well off parents in Dubai, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, because she wanted more personal freedom. She felt a lot of pressure to conform to social norms in Dubai, and to get married and have kids, and religion, and so on.

I've heard this kind of thing from other people who came to Canada too. The freedom just to be able to do what you want with your life, to get away from traditional family expectations or a society that forced people to conform.

I hope Canada will always be a place for people to be free.

I liked her a lot, maybe we'll see her again.

After an oddly not-filling at all omelet (how can you make an omelet that leaves you hungry? All I eat at home for breakfast is two eggs and toast) my husband and I just sort of meandered around town.

It was too late in the day to bother with the art gallery or the indoor gardens, which were on the other side of town.

We went to some thrift stores, which didn't feel very creative or Valentine's Day themed, but since we didn't plan anything, you get what you get.

Then we went for a walk in a nice, old neighborhood with big trees (though more and more I'm seeing ugly infill buildings that look like snap together kits) and that was brisk (still pretty cold today at -19 C). I enjoyed it though.

I've been feeling a bit better the last couple of days in terms of the tightness in my hips/piriformis/sciatic nerve that has been on and off for weeks. I was happy to go for a walk.

Then we came home and made a REAL MEAL that actually made us feel like we ate something, and watched "Ford v Ferrari", which is a great movie even if you aren't a big race car person.

I don't know if today was romantic in any way, but it IS a day I got to spend with my Sweetie.

Sounds like you had a really nice day, and I'm glad you got to meet that lady and get to know her. I hope that you get to spend more time, but either way it just sounds like you had a really nice day overall. Glad you enjoyed the walk and time with your husband too!
