Feb. 27th, 2025 12:26 amToday I am grateful for:
A pretty quiet day overall.
I had a pretty leisurely approach to the day, no rush for anything. I did do the dishes and cleaned the cat litter, added water to the turtle tank, and brushed off an area rug with the broom (does a decent job on this rug as it is woven and doesn't have a pile).
There was an e-mail from the pottery studio, saying we are having a follow up meeting to the one we had almost two months ago about how do we run the studio so that it involves more people than just the self appointed ruler person, and how to we graduate the "new" potters to working on their own on other days, so that we can end this weird cycle of people feeling like they have to stay in the beginner class forever (hint: teach them what they need to know to work on their own instead of infantilizing them!).
I hope this meeting does create the committees we need to build all of the needed policy and the platform for an online community/information board, and the hoped-for curriculum and "graduation" checklist for new potters, as well as more plans to mix the newer potters with the long-term potters so that we aren't two separate groups that never see each other.
They barely gave us any notice for this meeting, only emailing us today, for the meeting this Sunday. It seems a little undermining, if the goal was to get a lot of people to attend.
I did chores, then headed to the barn for our lesson.
River did well today, he seemed to be more willing to stay with me on the circles and not drift; R did have some pointers that helped, but I think River was also just either looser in his body or feeling more with it mentally?
I know we did TOO MANY circles yesterday, and maybe he'd had enough.
Today we worked on the same pattern I worked on yesterday, and we did reasonably well with it. It's tricky, and not the easiest kind of movement for a bigger horse (everything is close together, tight circles, and transitions in short distances).
Then we worked on more attunement with the umbrella, with R walking around with it, and he was very relaxed, so we went ahead and I carried it while mounted. He did well with that, at the walk and the trot.
Then I came home and my Sweetie got home about the same time. I made supper tonight.
He had been to the climbing gym, and he fell off (it's only bouldering, so not very high up) and scraped the inside of an arm on a hold (they're abrasive) and it's very sore looking.
Then we watched more "Neverwhere".

Date: 2025-02-28 08:02 am (UTC)I COULD just not worry about any of this, nothing would change, and I could likely continue to throw pottery just fine.
I would also have to accept all kinds of unilateral decisions and limitations and rules imposed by this one person.
I would have to not stand up for all the new potters who are not getting what they need to become independent potters.
