Apr. 2nd, 2025 12:36 amToday I am grateful for:
Good sleep.
Getting a laugh out of April Fool's posts on FB.
I spoke with Sister E, who sounded very flustered. She had "one of those days" where nothing was going right.
They were getting new flooring, and the whole house was in turmoil. She was still trying to make lasagna while this was happening (why not just wait..?).
She was telling me about all the stuff she was shifting around in the kitchen, and mentioned a fondue pot. The kind that uses a little fuel canister. I asked her if she actually made fondue, and she replied....and this is probably the strangest response one could have had..."I keep it in case the power goes out, because you could cook with it without electricity".
They live in town, unless the power went out everywhere, if the power went out you could just go out for food, or order pizza? I can't imagine my thought, if the power went out, would be to get the fondue pot out! I would probably just make a sandwich, or even eat a can of cold soup or a bowl of cereal.
Oh well.
I went to see River, and it was VERY muddy and sloppy outside. Nice to have a sandy arena to work in.
He was REALLY good today. He had decent energy, without me having to do all the work for it. He was focused, and soft to the cues. He was really in tune today.
I would LOVE to have that kind of connection and energy every day, but I'm also just happy when they happen.
I was enjoying some more songs I put on my playlist. Good energy vibes.
I ended up chatting with K after my ride, about all kinds of things. I talked with him about the therapy session where he used River, in a way that was positive, and I feel okay now about him being used.
It's possibly just the one time, but maybe again if this is what the client wants. The therapy work involves grooming, and from the sounds of things, a lot of observing the horse's emotional state and developing empathy. It helps kids identify emotions in others, and to see how their energy affects others.
Then R and another rider came back in from having a lesson (K and I's conversation went on for her whole lesson), and they had BIG energy. We ended up talking about planning a party of some kind, for R's daughter who is graduating this year, and a woman who rides at the barn (and has for a LONG time) who is getting married.
I think we should have some kind of gathering for them.
It was a super fun conversation.
Then I came home, a little later than usual. My Sweetie had supper ready (Yay!) and we chatted for a while as we ate.
Good sleep.

Date: 2025-04-05 07:52 am (UTC)I don't think you can cook a hot dog or a marshmallow right over a sterno flame, there's chemicals you don't want from that.
I get that it isn't THAT different a concept from having a butane/propane camp stove (which you shouldn't use indoors), but it just struck me as very strange.
They live in town now, and if the power were to go out for more than a few hours, they wouldn't stay in their house anyhow. They would go to a hotel, to whatever community center was taking people in, or something like that.
My husband even suggested that it would make as much sense to just use the BBQ outside.
