Apr. 8th, 2025 01:00 amToday I am grateful for:
More beautiful weather, with more snow gone today.
Getting up in reasonable time to go to town for pottery.
I had a quick bath, using the "soap store" soap, and though it smells weird it has a luxurious lather, and my skin didn't feel dried out.
Just before I was leaving for town, the septic alarm went off (it signals being full, but also goes off if the pump gets jammed against the wall of the tank). That alarm has gone off several times this week, and my husband kept taking the lid off and adjusting the pump.
We suspect that ground water is flowing into the tank through the joins in the tank column, and pushing the pump against the wall.
I called him today when the alarm went off, and he said to just unplug the alarm, since he checked the system yesterday, and it wasn't full (we have a couple hundred gallons before it would be over filled).
More on that later.
I went to pottery, and had a good time. I chatted with others, helped one woman with her "halfway there" piece, and threw something that might be okay, trimmed my piece from last week. An enjoyable session.
I popped my head into Winner's, found a few things I COULD buy, changed my mind back and forth, but then found some sequinned "shoulder capes" that were wonderful! I got one black one with silver sequins, and an off-white one. They are perfect for dressing up a simple dress, almost a flapper vibe.
Then I got groceries, not a HUGE haul this time, and I do find it sort of soul-crushing as prices keep climbing. It makes it feel like I have NO IDEA if a price is reasonable or not anymore, if the seller has any reason for charging that price, or if it's all just madness.
Some things haven't gone up too much lately, but a Lindt chocolate bar used to be under four dollars only a year ago, and now it is five dollars "on sale". Our usual bread brand seems to go up and down randomly, but then you see this organic something or rather bread for EIGHT DOLLARS. That bread must be the best damn bread ever made, like "makes the hair grow back on bald men" good.
I like radishes, but the store only had radishes that were grown in the U.S., so F*CK that, we're not buying radishes.
I AM grateful to have the means to buy groceries, and the physical strength, etc. I do not take this for granted.
When I was in my 20's, I struggled to buy groceries all the time, had to walk about half an hour just to get to the store, and had to walk another half an hour with all my food. I always had to consider what I would actually be able to carry, and if I could get up the stairs with it.
Then I came home, took Dandy back (he's so sweet, he now understands that when I call him, he's going back with his Mom/goats, and he walks up to me to be caught. This is a pony who used to run away from me for half an hour rather than be touched).
I brought everything in and put the food away, but noticed immediately the smell of sewage.
When my Sweetie got home (right after I did) he went into the basement and moved stuff away from the wet area, put a new pump in the septic tank outside (we have a spare for just this reason) since the other pump burned out from running and running and running from being pushed against the tank wall, which triggers the float device to tell it to pump.
Sigh. We've had issues with the septic system before, and no, it's not "defective" somehow. This is the reality of a rural septic system. They're tricky.
So, that means he's not getting much sleep tonight, which sucks.
It was otherwise a pretty good day.
