Apr. 10th, 2025 09:35 pmToday I am grateful for:
Beautiful weather.
I woke to the odd absence of cats, which meant that something else was drawing their attention. I could hear a fluttering sound that is familiar enough to me, though we hadn't had that sound in this current house. We used to get birds in the chimney in the former trailer...not this house.
Sure enough, in the living room, there's a grate in the floor which a bird was trying to exit, with all of the cats eagerly peering down at it. Poor creature.
I put the cats in another room and took off the grate, allowing the bird to fly into the living room. Of course it had to bash itself around for a while.
I tried to capture it in a pillow case and nearly succeeded, when it occurred to me that I could remove the screens from two windows, and let it find the egress.
It did fly out on it's own, and I hope that it isn't too bashed up. It was able to fly, so hopefully it's okay.
What doesn't make sense, is that there shouldn't be ANYWHERE it could have entered our ducts. Everything is pretty new for our heating system and all of the vents and such, and everything looks to still have the necessary covers and screens and so on. My husband looked when he got home, and he can't figure out how it got in.
It bothers me that we didn't find anything, as this could happen again.
I chose to call Trainwreck, and our conversation was okay. She's in the hospital, and will be for some time as she is drying out before enrolling in a rehab program for her alcoholism. Apparently you have to be sober for X number of days before going there.
So, she tells me that all she does at the hospital is lies in bed and waits for the next meal. She doesn't feel able to walk around, and doesn't want anyone taking her out of her room in a wheel chair, I guess because she doesn't want anyone seeing her (her face still has bruises on it from falling).
She apparently hasn't even asked for reading material, or a television, or anything. So she just lies in her room.
Yet, I bet her son is visiting just about every day. Can't mention that in case it sounds like her life is less bleak.
So we talked about neutral topics like spring, gardening, and so on.
Then I went outside to do chores, and also cleaned more manure out of the pony/goat pen. That is a big job, and I am going to have to just do more whenever I get the chance.
My Sweetie came home and helped me, and we took somewhere around five wheel barrows full over to the compost pile (that is also getting pretty high with manure).
Then we trimmed Sasha's front feet, and I tidied them up again. She is not wearing her hooves down at all, so I think we're going to have to start doing small trims very often to keep them in shape.
Then we let Ursula and the goats out into their bigger pasture. Their usual corral is very muddy with all the grass gone, but they have to be in there most of the time since the ponies can't be on grass all the time, and the bigger pasture isn't enough to keep the goats safe. Anyhow, the bigger pasture is drier and has grass.
We spent some time grooming Ursula, though she is a long ways from being done shedding her winter hair, she looks better.
Ursula was all "bucky" and silly today.
Then we sat in their pasture, and just gave them some time to be happy critters.
After that, we let Wonder and Dandy out into THAT pasture, and we walked around with Roxy for a while. My husband likes to look at all the trees and say "we should cut down those old ones this year". He usually does not cut down those old trees. He just really enjoys saying that he will.
Then we came inside and made supper and watched an episode of "Fringe", then my Sweetie went to bed ridiculously early at 8 pm.
I am trying to figure out how to create a schedule on the calendar for our Communications Committee, to show who is administering the Facebook page from May to October. It's to be a two week rotation.
I think I made a schedule on A calendar, whether or not I was making it so that the rest of our group could see it.
Then I'm trying to download my recent videos of riding patterns to YouTube so I can enter them online. That's being a bit weird today too.
I feel strange posting so early, but everything feels a bit off today from my husband going to bed so early.
