Apr. 13th, 2025 12:25 amToday I am grateful for:
A lovely day outside.
Good sleep.
A day in the city with my Sweetie.
We got to the city in decent time. Our goal was to try again to get a vacuum cleaner. We went to a different store, and looked at a different brand that we researched first that will remain undefined.
The sales person was a very comfortable looking person wearing a Nirvana t-shirt and her vibe was very relaxed. Not one bit of pressure.
We straight up told her what we were looking for, which was no coincidence as the brand/model is pretty much the only household brand they carried, they otherwise had central vacuum cleaners (we didn't want one of those).
She then said, in a VERY not-pressured way, that if we were interested, there was another model that was the same in pretty much every way, except the capacity was bigger, for slightly more money.
We went for the larger one, as the excellent heads and accessories and such were otherwise the same, since it made sense not to have to change the bags as often. We have a furry household.
I am glad to have that done with.
Right near that store was the former site of a bead store that I went to a lot, that recently moved locations. The current location is selling liquidation stuff, and out of curiosity we stuck our heads in.
It was strange to be in that space, full of bins of crap. It makes me feel sad that so much of that stuff will likely just be in a landfill in a year. There were a few things that weren't too awful, some tights, kid's Halloween costumes, but mostly crap. I found some nylon bags that might work for storing clothes, a pink hair extension that might be useful on River for a freestyle costume, and two plastic trays that I hope will fit under our clawfoot bathtub to store stuff.
Then we went to a fabric store, where I was hoping to find some ribbon and trim, found some, and then also found some fabric that I wouldn't mind having someone make into a dress.
I have a few pieces of "wish fabric" now, and I need to talk to the woman in town who does tailoring, to see if she could make me something, and what it would cost.
I should just learn to sew, really, but that has always intimidated me. I would hate to just make ugly things.
Then it was still early enough in the day to call up a friend, the one we babysat her animals when she had surgery, and see if she was up for a walk and maybe supper after.
She was game, and I thought it was very nice of her to be open to such a spur of the moment invitation.
We agreed to meet at a park, and as we tried to access it, there were protests (about Palestine) everywhere in that area, making it very difficult.
So, we went to a different park, and called her to let her know about the protests, and where we went instead.
So, she met us at Park B.
We had a great walk, it was very nice outside, and the trail is very woodsy in places, and still pops up into a very old, very wealthy neighborhood which is lovely to walk around and see the beautiful homes.
After our walk, we went to one of our vegan places, and she really enjoyed it. She's not really vegetarian or vegan, but enjoys a range of food.
It was good to see her, she's doing better overall than a year or so ago, when she was really struggling. I'm glad to hear she's keeping busy with her home, her sweet animals, and her gardening.
Then we came homel, tried the vacuum cleaner and rejoiced at the amount of hair it picked up with a pass over the area rugs, and watched "The Stowaway" which was only okay.
